“She’ll be behind us with it just if you start to pass out.”
She felt a fiery blush cover her face. “Um, Zachary, I think you should put a robe on.”
The guys looked at her and laughed.
“You don’t want to see my tush, sweetheart?”
She lifted her chin. “Yes, I do. I just don’t want anyone else to see it.”
She could tell she surprised both men and smiled in satisfaction. She liked the fact she surprised Zachary and planned to do it often.
Chapter Six
“I’d like to go to the bathroom before heading out.”
“Sure, man. Do you want me in there?” Thomas asked.
“No.” He was about ready to tell Anna to come in with him, but she still blushed from seeing his ass.
It felt good to move around, even with crutches, empty his bladder independently, and not use a bedpan. His body was incredibly stiff from lying in bed for three weeks, and he knew it would take some time and a lot of effort to regain his strength.
He looked at his face in the mirror as he washed his hands. Hell, one side of his face was covered in a bandage. He was tempted to take a look but didn’t want to push it too much.
He stepped out into the room. “Let’s go.”
They walked down the hallway and turned back when they came to an end. He saw the door to his room, and it looked like it was a mile away. He knew he was pushing it, but he wanted out of this place. If the doctor saw how well he was doing, he’d most likely let him go.
He could feel his limbs shaking when they got to his bed. Thomas helped him in, and Anna covered him up.
“You did good, man. You maybe pushed it a bit,” Thomas said. “But I don’t think you went too far. We’ll try again in the morning and see how you do.”
“Thanks, man. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Thomas waved at Anna. “Bye, Anna.”
“Bye, Thomas.”
He was grateful when Anna held the cup up to him and put the straw in his mouth. He sucked up the water until the cup was empty.
“I’ll get some more.”
He nodded and closed his eyes. She was back a minute later with a full cup, and he swallowed half of it. “That tastes good.”
“Did you overdo it?”
He grinned. “Sweetheart, I was military and then FBI. I’m used to pushing it, and I know how much my body can take and when to quit. I don’t want to do something to prevent us from going home tomorrow.”
She nodded.
“Will you turn on the TV?”
Anna showed him where the control was. She sat in a chair beside his bed and read the magazine while he surfed the channels, finally finding a baseball game.
The phone on the nightstand next to the bed rang.
Anna got it and said a few things before handing it to him.
“Hey, man, it’s Travis. We’ll come up and see you before heading home. Is there anything you want?”
