“Summer Brooks.”
I looked up and he was kneeling on one knee. Oh my God.
“I’m not the boy you used to know. But my feelings for you have never changed. I’ve always been in love with you. Always. And I’ll never stop loving you. You’re my whole world, Summer. I’m not me without you.”
“Miles.” My heart was so full it felt like bursting.
“I talked to your dad after dinner. He gave me his blessing. And I didn’t want to wait another second to ask you. We’ve been apart for so long. And we were never meant to be apart. We’ve always been written in the stars. Marry me, Summer.”
“Yes! A million times yes!” I threw my arms around him and he caught me. He was always there to catch me.
He was right about everything. We weren’t kids anymore. We had been through so much. There was a darkness in me that was forged in flames. His darkness was carved in ice. But I was wrong before. I didn’t burn because of it. And he didn’t freeze. Neither one of us broke. Our love for each other made us strong enough to see the light again. Strong enough to hope. To dream. To find happiness in a world of chaos. Because we were both made of steel.
