“Yep, about moving to Alaska. But I wouldn’t exactly call it crazy.”

“On a whim, I applied for a job in Polar Point. And they’ve already made me a ridiculously generous offer.”

“And you are calling because you want me to talk you out of taking it?”

“Yes. And no. I’m not sure. It’s such an impulsive thing for me to do. I’m never one to act on anything so sudden and so … dramatic.”

“Life can be sudden and dramatic. Also exciting. Tell me about the offer.”

“They offered me double the salary I make now, and they would cover all relocation expenses. They’re even going to pay for temporary lodging costs. Plus, I get my choice to rent one of Polar Point’s new cabins that the company recently built for their employees. But there’s a catch.”

“How bad?”

“They want me on a flight three days from now.”

“Wow. That is dramatic. And exciting. Have a great flight!”

“You’re not even going to try to talk me out of going? Not even a little bit?” Joy asked, incredulous over her friend’s response.

“Why should I? It’s a great offer, and you want to go there. So, go! Give it your best for six months or a year. If you can’t handle it, I’ll help you get your old boring life back together. Deal?”

Joy paused, barely mulling it over. “Deal.”
