Does he really like her, or was it just a game he was playing with me?
And then I get anxious and unable to sit still. Maybe he is just playing a game with me, but if he is, there’s no way I’m going to be able to sit down here by myself for the rest of the day or make reservations for the two of them at that stupid restaurant. So, even though I know it’s probably a bad idea, I get up from my desk and march up the stairs to the second floor.
Fortunately, Zander is in his office, but unfortunately, Kendall is in there with him. He sees me coming through the glass and says something to her as I open the door and just barge right in.
“You think I don’t know what you’re doing?” I ask.
“What am I doing?” he asks, a smug look on his face.
“I’ll let you two talk—” Kendall starts to say, but Zander interrupts.
“No, it’s fine, Kendal,” he says. “You can stay.”
“Trying to play a little game.” I smile, waving my hand at her. “Make me jealous?”
Kendall looks back at Zander, then at me, obviously confused. “Are you two…together?”
“No.” Zander smiles. “We are not.”
“Nope!” I add.
“So why would you be jealous?” Zander asks. “You’re not into me, right?”
“Right.” I nod.
“Then why do you care if I’m with Kendall?”
Shit. He’s got me!
I try not to let it read on my face, but Zander is already smiling. I guess there’s more to him than just incredibly good looks, but I guess I should have already known that seeing as how he’s the CEO of his own company.
“You’re right, I don’t care,” I reply, nose in the air. “I just thought I’d let you know that whatever you’re trying to do, it’s not going to work.”
I whirl on my heel and charge out of his office, realizing I probably shouldn’t have come in here in the first place.
“Ah, I see,” I hear him chuckle behind me as I start to leave.
“Oh,” I say, turning around. “And I didn’t make that reservation for you two either! I don’t think that’s in my job description!”
And with that, I’m gone, storming back downstairs to my desk to grab my things before marching out the front door to my car.
