Deputy Boyd looked surprised at first, then he shook his head.
“Chief was right—you’re turning out to be a wild one all right.”
“It’s the Breeding Fever,” Bobby Aiken said. “It’s got her so hot she’s ‘bout to go crazy. I’m surprised Chief McCain hasn’t come in to breed her before now—she’s right on the edge—you can tell by the smell.” And he actually leaned down and sniffed at my crotch like a dog!
My answer to that was swift, hard, and non-verbal—I kneed him right in the nose. There was an audible crunch! and Bobby Aiken gave a hoarse cry and jumped back with blood running down his face.
“By doze!” he gasped, cupping the wounded area. “You broke by doze, you fudking cunt!”
“That’s what you get for sticking it where it doesn’t belong,” I snapped. “You stay away from me if you don’t want to be wearing your balls for a bowtie, Bobby Aiken!”
His eyes widened.
“You’ve changed since high school!”
“You’re damn right, I have,” I told him. “Spread the word—I might have Breeding Fever but I swear to God, any man who gets his dick near me is going to get it ripped right the fuck off!”
His eyes widened even further and he scrambled away from me. Clearly they weren’t used to women who stood up for themselves in this town. I was betting that ever since the Were takeover, all the females left were meek little lambs like the ones I’d seen last night—ready to say “yes sir” and do whatever anybody told them.
Well, not me. I might be in a world of sexual hurt at the moment, but I’d die before I let any one of the bastards in this town breed me!
I struggled and nearly got away as they were bringing me out to the unmarked van again, but Boyd caught me.
“Now, where do you think you’re going, little lady?” he chided me as he pushed me towards the back of the van. “Don’t you know Chief McCain has plans for you?”
“Fuck him and you too!” I snarled.
“Ain’t she fucking mouthy?” Bobby Aiken said, glowering at me.
“A little too mouthy for my taste. I like my women quiet and respectful,” Boyd said conversationally. And reaching in his pocket, he pulled out a none-too-clean bandana, rolled it up, and made as if to tie it over my mouth.
“Stop it! Get away from me!” My hands were cuffed behind my back but I snapped at him, trying to bite as though I was a she wolf who’s been cornered. But Boyd was determined to gag me.
“Hold her!” he commanded Bobby, who grabbed my arms and pulled backwards, forcing me to hold still.
I kicked and bit but Boyd still shoved the gag in my mouth and tied it tight behind my head. Then he pushed me into the back of the van and slammed the doors, imprisoning me.
Since my hands were cuffed behind me, there was no chance of reaching the knot that held the gag in place. I bit and gnawed on the fabric but without any effect—I was effectively silenced, at least for now. After realizing it was no use, I just sat there, quivering with rage.
I really felt wild—almost feral. Maybe the Breeding Fever was having some effect on me other than just making me horny. Or maybe I just didn’t respond well to being gagged and handcuffed. Either way, I was not in a good mood.
I was alone in the back of the van but there was a strange wooden structure beside me. It looked a little bit like a table but its top was curved instead of flat and there were leather cuffs fastened to all four of its legs.
I eyed it suspiciously. What the hell was that thing? I didn’t like the look of it for some reason—it seemed ominous though I wasn’t sure why. I didn’t get a chance to ask what it was, though, because after a jouncing ride in the back, we finally got where we were going.
I recognized it at once, as soon as they dragged me out of the van—it was the same clearing the Open Breeding had been held in the night before. I could even see the tree trunk that was stained with my blood at the far edge of the opening in the dense forest.
McCain was there too—he had Nick with him. My foster brother was also handcuffed and he had a blindfold on as well. The minute McCain got him to the center of the clearing, he stripped the blindfold off and Nick looked around, blinking.
When he saw me, he nodded once—a look of grim determination on his face. I could almost hear him promising he was going to get us out of this—though I didn’t see how.
“Watch him,” McCain said to two of his men, then he came over to where Boyd and Bobby Aiken were standing on either side of me. “All right boys, you know the plan,” he muttered to them. “I’ll get him to change and I’ll change too.”
