How would Major look in a tuxedo? How proud would she be to have this gorgeous man on her arm, escorting her? She would feel safe for once.

She definitely felt safe now. There was something warm and infinitely calming about being around the man. Even when he was grumpy.

“I haven’t had a sexual partner in two. My dating life isn’t as fun as it sounds,” he admitted with a self-deprecating chuckle. “And honestly, I haven’t felt the need to get this close to anyone in a long time. You’re the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen, Brynn, but you need to know that my attraction goes deeper than your looks.”

Sometimes she felt like her whole world revolved around her looks. Every piece of her body was taken apart and analyzed by casting directors and reporters and people on the damn Internet. She rarely had the chance to simply enjoy what it meant to be young and healthy and a woman. Sometimes she felt like those eyes on her never blinked. Not even when she was alone, but somehow it felt different with Major. “You’re not bad yourself, Deputy.”

He kissed her neck, one hand moving up to cup her breast. “I appreciate that, but I promise my good looks don’t make me lazy. And I’m now remembering everything I miss about sex.”

So was she. Except she wasn’t sure she’d ever connected to a man the way she did with this one. She’d never had that brilliant combination of attraction and like. She liked Major, liked how he’d treated her and how he’d taken charge of a situation she’d felt paralyzed in.

Desire flooded her system. This was exactly what she needed. She’d needed this whole day with him, needed that peaceful time when they’d simply existed side by side, and then she needed this moment when they could come together. Her mom’s arrival had dragged all of her worries and cares back to the surface. If she’d done what she usually did, she would be back at the B and B with her mom and sister. Major had identified what she needed and been strong enough to offer it to her.

She was quickly coming to a point where she had to make a big decision, one she wasn’t sure she could make. She could hide from it for a few weeks, shelter here with him. She could lose herself in his kisses and the way his hands felt on her body.

His hand slipped under the waistband of her jeans, and she had to force herself to breathe. She could feel his lips running along the curve of her neck, the gentle squeeze of his palm as he explored her breasts. She suddenly wished there wasn’t the material of her shirt and bra between them. She wanted to feel how warm his hand was, wanted to be skin to skin with him. Her nipples grew taut and wanting under his caress. He bit the shell of her ear gently, with enough of a nip to get her panting.

Beyond that she could feel the tight line of his erection under her backside. He wasn’t lying. He wanted her and if he pushed her the slightest bit, he could have her on her back, welcoming him inside.

But here he was, offering her pleasure and requiring nothing in return.

“Tell me if I go too far,” he whispered.

She was worried he wouldn’t go far enough. “Just touch me.”

It was all she could think about right now, how close he was to the core of her. His fingers skimmed her sex and she found herself pressing up against him, feeling free and sexy for the first time in forever. She wasn’t Bria Knight, actress. She was simply Brynn and he was Major, and they could be together for a moment.

Again and again Major slid his finger over her, pushing her higher and higher. In those moments she couldn’t think of anything but how she felt. His other hand tightened on her breast, finding her nipple through the material and squeezing enough to send the sensation straight to her core. Brynn pressed against him, trying to draw out the orgasm exploding through her.

She was still shaking as he withdrew his hand, her whole body going languid.

“Better, baby?”

She’d always hated it when a man called her baby, but somehow it felt right coming from Major. Like she hadn’t liked it because deep down she’d known she wasn’t that man’s baby. Like she’d been waiting to hear it from the right man.

She was getting in way too deep, way too fast, and she couldn’t make herself care.

“Much better.” She could breathe again, and that awful veil of anxiety she’d felt when she’d realized her mom was here was gone.

Couldn’t Major use some of that relief, too?

She shifted off his lap, looking up at him. His normally restrained hair was messy, probably because she’d let her hand drift back to play with it while he’d been touching her. She’d run her fingers through it, loving the connection they’d found. His hair was dark, contrasting with the blue of his eyes. He really was swoon-worthy. “Can I do the same for you?”
