“You’re a nut,” he says. He rushes toward me and grabs my wrist. “Come on. We’re both getting wet.”
“Live a little,” I shout at him to be heard over the storm.
And I do.
Live a little.
I grab his face and pull him toward me. I’m not sure what possessed me, but I kiss him.
Kyle laughs and pulls away almost immediately. “What was that for? Don’t tell me that was your first kiss.”
“First one out in the rain.”
“And?”
“I thought a rain kiss would be really special.”
“And it wasn’t, huh?”
“You just aren’t the guy for me. Sorry.”
“I could’ve told you that.”
“Why are you single?”
“I don’t want a steady girl before college.”
“Ah, yes. Of course.”
“Why don’t you have a boyfriend?”
“The guys at school are all tools.”
“I go to your school.”
“Yeah…”
He laughs and shakes his head. “You’re crazy.”
“For standing out in the rain? You are too.”
“Yeah, well, we already know from Katie that your craziness rubs off onto people.”
“That right?”
“Damn straight.”
I laugh and laugh. “Guess I should go inside with you and let you dry my clothes. I have to go home eventually. My mom doesn’t want me to get a bike, so we fought.”
“Don’t you already have a bike?”
“A motorcycle,” I explain. I reach down and pull my wet shirt away from me. It makes a squishy sound. It’s skin-tight now, and the rain is cold so my nipples are visible despite my bra.
Kyle notices and glances away as he leads me inside. “Stay here.”
He runs up the stairs to Katie’s room. When he comes back down, I already stripped out of my shirt and skirt. He stares at me and then shakes his head.
“Erika, what are you doing to me?”
