“That many, huh? My count isn’t nearly that high. I hope that I don’t disappoint you.”
“In the bedroom? You certainly don’t there.”
I smile even as my heart breaks because that sure as hell suggests that I disappoint him elsewhere.
“Have you really been with that many girls?”
Rob shrugs. “I don’t think so, but I never bother to keep count.”
“Well, when your number is as small as mine, you can keep track.”
“You don’t have to share your number.”
“Three, including you.” I bite my lower lip. “How, uh… Stupid. Don’t worry about it.”
“You don’t want to know,” he says.
“So I’m not the best you’ve been with.”
“Am I the best that you’ve been?”
“Yeah, but it’s not like I have a ton of guys to compare you to.”
He laughs. “I don’t make it a habit to compare—”
“If I were the best, it would be on the forefront of your mind. You wouldn’t have to compare. You would just know.”
Rob flares his nostrils and chugs the rest of his beer. “That time… you know which one… that had been absolutely amazing.”
“Hmm.” I put my elbow on the table and cup my chin. “The cruise ship.”
He tilts his head to the side. “Okay, that time too.”
I can’t help grinning. “You mean that time at your place… when certain people watched…”
“Yes,” he says huskily, but he shakes his head. “I don’t just want sex from you.”
“I know. Is that…” I bite my lower lip. “Is that scary for you?”
“Yes, honestly.”
“Have I completely screwed things up for us?”
“The jury’s still out on that.”
“Which way are they leaning?”
“Like maybe you can recover, but I swear, if something comes up with you and Zac too…”
“That won’t happen.”
“What makes you so sure?”
“Zac… I don’t know. I get the feeling he doesn’t let many people in. Kinda like how Gabe keeps everyone at arm’s length.” I eye Rob. “You know, you do that too.”
“I don’t know.”
“You do know. You don’t want to be as gone for someone as your mom is. It fucked her up, losing your dad, and you don’t want to hurt that badly.”
