Ace grins at me, but I ignore him.

“You don’t understand,” Zac says. “That’s not like Rob at all.”

“Yeah, I’m sure you all are used to have him having a new flavor of the week every week, but…” I shake my head again. “If he wants to change, that’s’ because he wants to, and that’s on him, not me.”

“You done fucked up our boy,” Ace says.

“So that’s’ why you fuck with me.”

I glance down at my skirt. At least the soup wasn’t hot, but it’s gross. At least the skirt is black so I don’t have to worry about it being stained, but I need to get going if I’m going to get changed before my next class. Plus, I’m hungry. I wanted to finish that soup before it had been sullied by the golf ball.

“I should make you pay my dry cleaner’s bill,” I mutter, shooting daggers at Gabe.

He chuckles. “If you can’t handle shit, don’t dish it out.”

“I wasn’t aware that I was dishing any out,” I say dryly.

“You can’t act as if you’re blameless,” Gabe says. “Why not help a guy out?”

“Excuse me? If you think I’m going to just give in to Rob and let him have his way with me…” I shudder.

But I’m also thinking about the cruise and just last night in my bed…

Not giving in to Rob is a lot harder than it looks.

“You aren’t going to find a better guy than Rob,” Gabe says.

“The lot of you sure aren’t,” I mutter, “and since you’re all bosom buddies, I’m not sure that says a lot of good things about him. What’s that they say about the company you keep?”

“We’re plenty good company,” Zac protests.

“To the right kind of girl,” Ace says.

“But we already established that you’re a witch or maybe a she-devil,” Gabe says.

“Ah, so that’s why I deserve to be burned by soup.”

“You weren’t blowing on your soup,” he says.

I blink a few times. He watched me long enough to realize my soup wasn’t going to burn me if he pulled his stunt? I don’t know how I feel about that because while I’m glad he checked because being burned would’ve been terrible, but he still threw the ball in the first place.

“A she-devil might like it hot,” I mutter, not even sure what I’m saying.

Gabe snickers. “You could always take off your skirt if it’s too hot for you.”

“No thank you.”

“Wearing a thong?” Ace guesses. “You don’t want all of the guys on campus to stare at your bare ass cheeks?”

“You guys do plenty to make sure people stare at me,” I say firmly. “I don’t need that kind of attention.”

“If you have the goods, why not flaunt them?” Zac asks.

“I’m not flash like the Flash over here.” I tilt my head toward Gabe. “And I’m not a football star either. I don’t need people to worship me. All I need is for the lot of you to leave me alone.”

It’s probably the worst thing to say and will only make them that much more determined to continue to hound me, but I lift my chin, daring them to disobey me.

“If you only knew what it is like to be worshipped,” Gabe says with a grin. “Then you would realize just how incredulous that is.”
