“Urgh,” I groan, putting the ridiculously strong drink down on the table. “I was asking Quinn about the wedding and the events business. You remember your brother’s getting married, right?”
She holds her hands up in defeat. “Okay, I’ll drop it. And of course I remember my brother is getting married. One of my best friends is going to be my sister. How could I forget that?”
“I can’t believe you’ll all be married soon,” I say wistfully. Savannah and Josh had married on the ranch at the beginning of the year. Josh proposed right before Christmas, and they’d planned the wedding with Quinn’s help in a matter of weeks. Only close family and friends had been invited. It was small, but beautiful. Just how I’d want my wedding to be, not that I’ve thought about it much. There’d been no one in my life I’d come close to being that serious about. In fact, other than a relationship with a guy I’d met in college that ended badly, I haven’t dated much at all. I can’t help but think if I’d met Jack in another lifetime, he could have been that someone. I haven’t met him in another lifetime though, and it looks like we are only destined to be together for a short time.
“Who’d have thought we’d all be so grown up and responsible?” Savannah says with a smile. “Do you want kids, Aria?” she asks.
“Sure, someday.”
“You seem pretty taken with Jacob.”
“He’s adorable.” I don’t admit that I’m already getting attached to him. “What about you, Quinn?” I ask, steering the conversation away from me. “Are babies in the cards for you and Brody?”
Her face flushes pink and she sips on her soda. Savannah must see it too, as she catches my eye and grins.
“Quinn Montgomery, do you have something you need to tell us?” Savannah asks, bouncing in her seat. She shakes her head and drops her eyes. “Oh my God! I’m going to be an aunty, aren’t I?” A small smile pulls on her lips and Savannah squeals.
“We weren’t going to say anything yet,” Quinn admits. “It’s still early.” Savannah jumps off the sofa and throws her arms around Quinn.
“Congratulations! How far along are you? Were you trying? Do Mom and Dad know?” Savannah’s words tumble out, and I can’t help but laugh. I reach my hand over and squeeze Quinn’s.
“I’m really happy for you, Quinn,” I tell her, she smiles at me and turns to Savannah.
“No one knows except Brody, and now you two. We only found out last night. I think I’m around six weeks, and yes, we were trying,” Quinn says, answering all of Savannah’s questions.
“How did Brody take the news?” she asks excitedly.
Quinn laughs. “He was a little surprised. We both were. We’ve only been trying for a few weeks. I don’t think either of us thought it would happen so quickly. He’s happy though.”
“Mom is going to be so excited. When do you think you’ll tell them?”
“We have a doctor’s appointment next week, so we were going to wait until then. Can you keep it a secret?”
“Of course!” Savannah exclaims, and I can’t help but smile. There is no way Savannah will be able to keep it a secret. Quinn’s eyes flick to mine, and the look on her face tells me she knows that too.
After we’ve eaten the pizza, the night is filled with talk of weddings, babies, and for me, drinking far too many of Savannah’s ridiculously strong cocktails. We’ve moved inside and Savannah’s put a movie on, not that anyone is watching it. We’re more than happy chatting, but it’s good for background noise.
“I should go and get the guys. I said I’d be there around eleven,” Quinn says on a yawn, making no attempt to get up off the sofa. Sliding my phone from my shorts, I see it’s just after eleven. She looks tired, and I feel bad she has to go out this late to pick them up.
“You look tired. I could have driven if I hadn’t had so much to drink.” She waves her hand dismissively.
“I’m good, I’ll go in a minute.”
“I’ve drunk too much too. Maybe the guys could call a cab?” Savannah suggests.
“I’m fine, really,” Quinn mumbles, her eyes closed.
“Yeah, you look wide awake,” I joke. Just then the door to the living room opens and Josh walks in.
“Hey, babe. Quinn was just going to come get you all. Is everything okay?”
He nods and crosses the room, dropping a kiss on her lips. “Mase was worried about Lib and wanted to come home, so we all came back in a cab.”
“Is Libby okay?” she asks, concern on her face.
“Yeah, we’ve just come from there. She wasn’t answering her phone, but she’d just fallen asleep.”
“Where are Brody and Jack?” she asks. “I think Quinn might need carrying home,” she says with a chuckle.
