“I don’t care. I want to see you.”
“I want to see you too.”
Before either of us can say anything else, an alarm sounds.
“Shit! I gotta go. That’s a shout. I’ll see you later, though?”
I nod. “Be careful,” I tell him, only realizing at that moment how dangerous his job can be.
“I’m always careful,” he says, brushing a quick kiss on my lips.
He takes my hand and guides me down the stairs. Aiden, Liam, and Dylan are pulling on their uniform with Roman watching them in awe. Lucas squeezes my hand before letting go and doing the same, stepping into his boots. If I thought he looked hot before, seeing him in his uniform takes sexy to a whole new level.
Within seconds, the truck is leaving the firehouse with its engines blaring. Looking around, it’s only Ember who hasn’t gone with them. I guess someone has to stay.
After saying a quick goodbye, Roman and I head home. My mind wanders back to when Lucas kissed me, and I find myself wishing the hours away so I can see him again.
