“No. I chose to disobey Victor’s orders and I don’t regret it one bit.”
“You’re only saying that now. Sooner or later, you’ll realize sparing me isn’t worth it,” she said in a small voice.
“I made my choice. I’ll live with it. Besides, I’m sick of being Victor’s killing machine. I planned to pursue you sooner or later.”
“What do you mean?” She asked.
“You can’t be that blind, Jessie. I’ve always wanted you.”
“Why? There’s nothing remarkable about me. I’m no one. Just some loser waitress.”
Sergio stopped the car at a red light. He turned to her and placed two fingers under her chin, forcing her to look at him. He leaned in and stole another kiss from her. One that kick-started her heart. It was quick, but he bit on her bottom lip hard enough to draw blood.
The light turned green again. Sergio put his hands on the wheel and drove. Jessie licked at the blood and became aware of the fact it was just the two of them in this car. She remembered how warm he felt when he pulled her into an embrace. In those few moments, it felt like only the two of them existed.
It was crazy, being attracted to a stranger, but Sergio felt like the stranger she’d known all her life.
“You’re everything to me,” he finally said. His words puzzled her on so many levels, but she was too tired to ask him any more questions. The entire day wore her out. Sergio must’ve noticed because he said, “Sleep. Rest. I’ll wake you up when we arrive.”
Lowering her guard in front of Sergio wasn’t the wisest move, but she decided to close her eyes. She’d rest for a little while, that was all. As she drifted off to sleep, she forgot to ask him the most important question.
Where was he taking her?
