A tear leaks out and slips down Kennedy's face. “Everything is going to be ruined. My computer. My pictures from home.”
Kennedy and I have never been the closest, but she obviously needs comfort right now, so I walk closer and give her a hug. She burrows her face into my shoulder, but the second the door opens, she lets go.
Easton rushes into the room and lets out the biggest sigh of relief when he sees them both unharmed. He makes his way around the counter and pulls Amelia into his arms.
“Thank God you're both safe.”
I knew news was bound to spread fast, so I made sure to text Easton and let him know that I had Amelia and Kennedy and was bringing them back to our place. At least that way he didn't go through the heart attack I almost had when I thought they were inside.
When he releases Amelia, he grabs Kennedy's face and checks her over for any signs of injury, then pulls her close. She clings to him with everything she has. It's nice to see Easton like this with someone other than Tessa. He's got one of the biggest hearts, which is why Tess almost dying did so much damage.
“How are you? You okay?” he asks her.
She nods, but swallows harshly. “I think I'm just shocked. We just happened to go get some lunch, otherwise, I would have been there doing some homework.”
I can see how that would be traumatic, and obviously so can Easton and Amelia as that freaks them both out. We all hang around for a bit, completely silent and just processing what the hell happened today. It's obvious there is something on Amelia's mind, but she doesn't say anything.
“Is there anything you guys need?” Easton asks.
Kennedy shrugs. “I think I just want to take a shower.”
He nods and laces his fingers with hers. “I'll show you where and give you some of my clothes.” Before he leaves the room, he glances back at me. “You've got her?”
“Yeah, of course.”
As soon as they're gone, Amelia pushes herself up to sit on the counter and sighs heavily. I slot myself in between her legs and put my hand on her cheek. She leans into my touch. If I wasn't afraid of how vulnerable she is right now, I'd kiss her, but it's definitely not the time.
“I can't believe he would do this,” she says, letting out a shuttered breath.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to f
igure out who she's referring to. “You think Blade did this?”
Her gaze locks with mine. “Who else?”
Honestly, I wouldn't put it past him. The guy is certifiable. But something had to happen in order to make him angry enough to literally blow up her dorm room. Then it hits me.
“Amelia, when's the last time you talked to him?”
She looks down at her lap. “Early this afternoon. I broke up with him, and he grabbed my wrist and wouldn’t let go, so I...”
Oh, no. “So you what?”
“I kneed him in the balls and told him to never touch me again. In public.”
Yep, that'll do it. I sigh heavily and run my hand through my hair, pushing it out of my face. “You know there were probably a million better ways to go about that?”
She looks up at me, outraged. “Well, I was angry, and I had every right to be.”
“I get that,” I tell her as I run my hands down her arms. “I promise, I do. But Blade isn't the kind of person to react well to rejection.”
“No, you think?” she asks sarcastically, and it's nice to see a small hint of a smile finally appear.
I rub calming circles with my thumbs on her legs, and she rests her forehead against mine. Then, as if she just remembered, she pulls out her phone and hands it to me.
“I also got this.”
The texts from Blade are damning, and while I hear her murmur something about how she blocked him immediately after, I can barely hear it as rage starts to build inside of me. He did it. There's no other answer. And not only did he do it, he did it with the intention to harm her.
