My phone vibrates in my pocket, and I pull it out to find another text from the devil himself.

Blade: You're angry, I get it, but I'll give you one last chance to make up for that stunt you pulled earlier.

Rolling my eyes, my fingers move rapidly across the screen.

Amelia: Go fuck yourself.

I go to block him, but just as I hit to confirm it, one last text comes through that goes straight to the large pit forming in my stomach.

Blade: Okay, you little cunt. You asked for it.

Resting the phone on the table, Kennedy looks over at the text. Her gaze locks with mine, and while we can both see the fear in the other's eyes, we play it off like it's no big deal.

What could he really do?

It's one in the afternoon by the time I wake up. I didn't get in this morning until almost six, but no part of me regrets it. I'm just glad I was still awake to answer the phone when Amelia called.

The fury at what Blade did to her still courses through me whenever I think about it. What kind of fucking coward ditches his girlfriend to save himself? God forbid he acted like a man and owned up to his shit, but that's expecting far too much from that piece of shit.

I roll over and grab my phone, smiling when I find a text from Amelia waiting.

Amelia: Thanks again for last night. -Meelz

An irrepressible smile stretches across my face. After the past few weeks of her hating my guts, and then me being forced to pretend I hated hers, it's nice to feel like it's possible to get back where we were. Even if all that becomes of this is us being friends, I can live with that.

Pulling on a pair of sweatpants, I make my way downstairs for a cup of coffee. To my surprise, Easton is sitting at the kitchen table when I get down there. My brows furrow as I watch him eating his lunch.

“I thought you would be at class or something,” I tell him.

He smirks. “I could say the same about you. You just wake up?”

I nod. “There was a bit of crazy I needed to deal with.”

“Blade?”

My head tilts side to side. “I guess you could say that.”

He finishes chewing. “You know, I meant to ask. I saw this morning that I had a call from a number I don't recognize at like three in the morning last night. It says I answered it and stayed on the line for two minutes, but I don't remember anything.”

I exhale. “Yeah, you were sleeping, so I answered it.”

“And?” he presses for me to continue. “Who was it?”

“Amelia,” I tell him, bracing myself for the next part. “She was at the Campton PD.”

“She what?” he shouts.

I raise my hands in a way that tells him to calm down. “Apparently, she went on a drug run with Blade yesterday, not knowing it was a drug run. When they got pulled over, he took off and left her there. She was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute.”

He growls and stands up. “I swear to fuck, I'm going to—”

“Do nothing,” I cut him off. “I went and bailed her out, then brought her back to her dorm. Trust me when I tell you she's done with him. Now that she has seen a sliver of who he really is, she wants nothing to do with it.”

Huffing, he plops back into his seat. “She better fucking not.”

In an effort to lighten the mood, I sit across from him and smirk. “On the bright side, you might not have to tell her about your drug problem after all.”

He snorts. “No. I'll just have to explain to my parents why my sister has a record.”
