“And I will be.”
I don't mention anything about what Ray said, or how Blade only acted like he was into me because Zayn got there, or even how he wants me to sleep with him tomorrow night. All she would do is worry more, and I've had enough people against our relationship lately. I don't need more.
And besides, like I told Zayn, I'm a big girl.
The airport is by far one of my least favorite places in existence. It's full of people crying and saying goodbye, people edgy about flying or excited for their destination. It's just too many fucking emotions for one damn place. But when Knox told me him and Delaney needed a ride, there was no way I was missing it. After all, he's been a big help the last few days.
Seeing Amelia at Ray's last night was hard. Once again, I wanted nothing more than to scoop her up and take her far away from there, but I couldn't. I had to act like nothing fazed me. I'm not sure if Blade bought it, but she certainly did.
It didn't surprise me that Ray made a move to get in her pants, but it did piss me off. It took everything I had in me to act like I didn't care when all I wanted to do was put that shithead six feet under. But Knox was right. If this is going to work, Amelia has to make it look believable. The best way to do that is for her to honestly think I want nothing to do with her.
“You sure you're going to be okay?” Knox questions. “I can stay longer if you want.”
I shake my head. “Nah. I'll be good.”
He pulls me in for a quick hug. “If you need anything, just call.”
“I will,” I assure him and then turn to Delaney. “Make sure to keep his ass in check.”
She chuckles. “Don't worry. I will.”
Knox scoffs, but neither of us miss the smile on his face. She's always been his weak spot, and if anyone can keep him in line, it's her.
The two of them head into the airport, and I get back into my car. With everything that's been going on with Amelia, since she flipped my whole world upside down by walking into that party and revealing that she's dating the one person in the world I didn't want her to know, I completely forgot I was supposed to help Carter.
I dial his number and let the sound of it ringing come through the speaker before I pull into traffic. I'm almost thinking he isn't going to answer, when he does.
“So, you are alive.”
I snicker. “Fuck off. I've had a lot goi
ng on.”
He coos sarcastically. “What's wrong? Hot topic ran out of your favorite eyeliner?”
“Why do I even talk to you?” I ask, only somewhat joking.
“It's the charm and my good looks.”
I snort. “Trust me. No part of me is interested in any of that.”
He chuckles. “Not from me anyway. You're too busy crushing on Baby Donovan.”
“Way to make me sound like a pedophile,” I groan. “And besides, she has a boyfriend.”
“Really?”
“Mm-hm.”
He's quiet for a minute before he hums. “Well, I tried telling you to lock that shit down. You didn't listen.”
Trust me, prick. I know. “Anyway,” I change the subject. “How are things going with Jace?”
Carter's mood changes in an instant from playful to stressed. “I don't even know. I tried mentioning it to him, and he just went off. He denied it, but I've known that guy since I was like seven. I can tell when he's full of shit.”
“Did you try telling him that?”
“Yeah, and then he completely shut me out. Now, the only time I see him is when he's coming home to grab the books for his next class or getting ready to go out.”
