“Get another fucking drone out there and find out what happened, Cruz!” A hot flush spread across her face. The threat of incapacitating fear would overwhelm her mind if she didn’t get it under control.

“Jordan, I’m sure he’s fine. We have to haul ass or Fadhil is going to escape,” Knox urged her on. The best way to keep Jordan from giving into the fear that Brock might be hurt was to keep her mind occupied.

“You’re right.” Jordan cranked up the speed. “I want an update the minute you know, Cruz.”

“The backup team is almost at Brock’s coordinates. Just concentrate on keeping safe.”

“There! I see him,” Knox shouted excitedly. “On the other side of that row of cherry trees. He’s almost at the edge of the Park. Oyster Bay Channel is hard on the other side of Bayshore Freeway. We have to hurry.”

They pushed the four-wheelers to the limit. Five minutes later it skidded to a halt in the parking lot next to where Fadhil had abandoned his machine. “There!” Jordan pointed to where he was getting onto a boat. They crouched low behind the shrubs and ran closer.

“Damn! you were right. We have to stop that boat from taking off, Jordan. That’s a Fountain 32 Thundercat. It has a top speed of 120 mph. The Coast Guard won’t be able to keep up with them once they hit the ocean.”

“Take a shot when it’s safe, Knox. See if you can knock out one of their outboards.”

Knox looked at Jordan who was checking her rifle. “What are you going to do?”

“Fadhil is mine. He’s not getting away. Not again.”

“Just be careful. He’s a clever bastard.”

“No one knows that better than me.” Jordan set off again, keeping low and hidden until she reached the boat. She cursed as the powerful hum of the engine registered. “We’re too fucking late!”

“Get me out of here!” Fadhil’s heavy accent floated toward her as she crawled closer to the edge and peered over the shrubs, just in time to see him disappear into the cabin of the boat.

“I’m so going to regret this,” she muttered as she pushed the rifle over her back and sprinted toward the boat. She jumped just as it pushed away from the edge, landing with the stealth of a cat on the back intake and hunched down behind the curved fiberglass back fin.

Jordan winced, hearing Knox’s shouting curse from behind her as the boat sped away. She’d missed the opportunity to shoot out the motors since Jordan was right on top of it. No doubt Brock was going to be highly pissed once he found out she had again acted on impulse.

But this time it was an impulse she didn’t regret. Fadhil was a danger to the country and she had no intention of allowing him to get away and continue his killing spree.

Chapter Eighteen

“You okay, Brock?” Jared didn’t look at him but kept his gaze and his two MAC 10’s trained on Marco Boneiro, Abu Mohammed al-Hashisi al-Lurayshi, and Deigo Rossi, one of the Five Family bosses.

It was a standoff and Brock had just taken a hit.

“Just a flesh wound,” he grumbled as he got to his feet and aimed his weapons at the three men. “For a bunch of criminals you’re fucking bad shots, Boneiro.”

Marco didn’t say a word. Hatred glimmered in his eyes as he stared them down. Abu appeared fidgety, the most dangerous kind of criminal holding a gun. Rossi was the only one who seemed calm and collected. “Three against two, Commander. You lose,” he mocked.

Jared smiled. “Brock’s a sharpshooter. He’ll off two of you before I even squeeze the trigger.”

“Except I won’t need to.” Brock saluted. “Welcome to the party, guys.”

Marco spun around. “Fuck!”

Rossi and Abu looked back, echoing Marco’s expletive as they stared at a team of heavily armed squad of FBI agents. Their weapons hit the ground with a collective thud.

“Where the fuck is that bastard son of yours, Boneiro? He’s the reason we’re in this lurch.” Rossi glowered at Marco. “This time you’re going down.”

Marco cracked a nervous laugh. “In case you missed it, my friend, we’re all about to go down.” His gaze skimmed over Jared and Brock. “Until we go to court. You’ve got fuckall on us, Commander. Why not just let us go and save yourself a lot of trouble? We’ll be released at the arraignment for lack of evidence. You know that as well as I do.”

“Oh, I wouldn’t be so sure about that,” Jared said. “This time we’ve got enough shit to lock up the three of you and the rest of the Commission’s leaders for life. You’ve fucked yourselves well and good.” Jared nodded at Bill Simms who had just joined them. “Get these scumbags out of my sight. And Bill, make sure they’re hooded, cuffed, and fettered. Keep them under armed guard 24/7 until you lock them up. This time, they’re all going up the river to the Buttfuck Hotel.” A large grin beamed across Jared’s face. “Good luck, bitches. You’ll be able to buy anal lube at the prison commissary. You’re gonna need it.”

“Don’t worry, Commander,” Bill said with a pleased grin. “We’ve got an armored vehicle ready and I will personally keep an eye on them. These bastards are going to pay for the lives they took.”

“Let’s get back to the cabin, Jared. I’m worried about Jordan.” Brock set off immediately, unconcerned with the blood seeping from under his shirt.
