I cleaned the bathroom, which was always pretty clean anyway. Was there anything about Declan that wasn’t perfect?
I wish there was because I was seriously falling hard for my boss.
Declan was in his study at his desk writing when I knocked at the door. “I’m off now.”
He rose and walked me to the door. “Can I drive you to school?”
“No. I’ve got the bike. I’m good.” He kept staring at me again, and all of a sudden I felt naked. “Thanks for everything. And I’m sorry if I got a bit emotional earlier on.”
His gaze radiated warmth and empathy. “Thanks for sharing. I can see you’ve been through a lot. If there’s anything I can do, please reach out. Even if you want to talk. Anything.”
I swallowed back another lump. “I can’t believe how kind you are. The work. The generous wage. That’s all really helping.”
He nodded. “Take care on that bike.”
I smiled and waved.
