I chuckled. “Let me guess, Jaxon’s cologne of choice?”

“Yep.”

Jaxon broke Lucy’s heart.

“And to think you ran away,” she said, switching back to my story. “If you’d stayed, he might have bought you breakfast.”

“Maybe,” I said.

“And now you’ve got both of those hotties chatting you up. Go girl.”

“Let’s not jump to conclusions here, Luce. Declan was just curious about me.” I grit my teeth. “And to think he thought I was a zonked-out prossie all those months. That spins me out.”

“At least, now he knows. And Ethan Lovechilde. He’s fucking hotalicious.”

I giggled. “Declan’s hotter.”

“A double date?”

“I’m not aiming that high.”

“Why not? You’re stunning. You could make a fortune on Onlyfans.”

“That’s not me. You know that,” I said. “I’m happy being a maid until I get my degree.” I descended rocky steps onto a pebbly foreshore. “I’m just stepping onto the beach. I’m going to work on a tan. I haven’t seen the sea since my mother took me to Brighton when I was little. That’s when she couldn’t find someone to mind me.”

“You’ll show her. Things are moving up for you, girl.”

I had no plan to contact my mother, ever.

“Have you got a bikini?”

I scrunched my face. “No way. Can you imagine me in a bikini?”

“You’d look amazing. And maybe soon, you might even find out what it feels like to have a man.”

“I’m scared. You know that. And I’ve never really felt like sex before.”

“Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So you keep saying. But wait until you meet someone you like. And you never know, from what you’ve told me so far, it sounds like you might have a billionaire or two chasing you. Woo-hoo…”

“I think they’d run if they knew I was a virgin. Declan probably knows. I told him I was being auctioned off that night.”

“That probably gave him a hard-on.”

“Don’t be silly.” My face scorched. I did notice his eyes smoulder a little after I’d mentioned the “V” word.

“If I was going to lose my cherry, I’d want it to be with a hot, older billionaire.”

“That’s a fairy tale,” I said.

“When should I visit?”

“Whenever. Although you’ll have to stay in a BNB in the village. I’ll pay.” I missed my one and only best friend.

“Let’s do that soon. Love you.”

“Love you back.” I closed the call.

I wiggled my very white toes in the water, and looking up, I saw him walking towards me in nothing but a pair of shorts and a loose white shirt flapping in the gentle breeze.
