She left us singing to herself.

“Do you know what she said?” Theadora asked.

“God bless us.”

“That was so nice of you. You really made her day.”

I smiled. “That’s the joy of money. Giving it to people who really need it.”

Theadora’s gaze shone with curiosity. “Are you really this good?”

I shrugged. “I’ve got a lot of money. So why not?”

She shook her head.

“What?”

“This all seems so unreal to me. I have to keep asking myself if I’m really here.”

“Thank god you are.” I turned to face her. “Why don’t we get married now?”

Her brows knitted. “Like, this minute?”

“Well, later today. I’ve spoken to a priest in the village. In that lovely little chapel that we visited the other day. He’s happy to do it.”

“Today?” Her eyes widened.

“That’s unless you want a big wedding back home. I’m good with that too. I’ll do anything you want, Theadora. From now on, you call the shots.”

She laughed. “Then we won’t get much done. I’m shit at making decisions.”

“Does that include now?”

“No. I want this. I like that idea.” Her face brightened. “Let’s do this. Only…”

“Only what?”

“What will I wear? And I’ve got to tell Lucy. God knows if those two have even left their room.”

“I saw them earlier heading for the beach,” I said. “Why don’t we go down to the village? You can go shopping for something. Or wear whatever you like.” I touched her floral dress. “This is very pretty.”

“I can’t get married in this,” she protested. “We’ll want photos, won’t we?”

“We sure will. I guess I’ll have to get dressed up too.”

“I’d love you in white linen, like that man we saw the other day.”

She was referring to the Italian tycoons getting around in their linen pants, cravats, and bright jackets.

“Then I better get shopping myself.” I rose. “Are you sure?”

“We leave tomorrow, so I guess so.”

Our eyes locked and then we both giggled. Something that just always happened with us for no real reason.

Life had that light breezy feel.
