With that cold smile of his, I got the feeling Crisp got off on my brush-off.
The car stopped and he jumped out.
I turned to him as he came towards me. “Fuck off. I’m not interested in anything you have to say.”
Some might have described him as handsome, given his tall, distinguished manner, and sharp appearance, but it was those narrowing blue eyes fringed with orange eyelashes that gave him that dangerous, untrustworthy vibe.
“I just want to talk.” He touched his face, and the large sapphire on his finger glistened in the daylight.
Yes, he was filthy rich. Richer than even the Lovechildes, I’d heard. So what? That meant nothing to me. If anything, it made me dislike him more.
In the hope he’d go away if I gave him a minute, I paused.
Even his pine scent made me nauseous. Did my stepfather wear that cologne? Or had my senses memorised something of that night at the club?
“I didn’t drug you. You need to know that.”
“But you know who did?” I inclined my head.
He didn’t even blink. Instead, his eyes travelled over my body again. “You were meant for me.”
“I’m no longer a fucking virgin. So can’t you find someone else to harass?”
His mouth tugged up at one end.
“You’re going to run out of money soon. I can give you everything.”
“I’m not interested.” I kept walking.
He followed me. “You were interested back then. You auctioned your virginity. I bought you.”
I stopped and pointed my finger in his face. “I was drugged. I had no fucking intention of selling anything. Now leave me alone. I just want to live a normal life away from sleazebags like you.”
He even had an evil chuckle. He seemed to get off on my barbs. “You’re not still pining for Declan Lovechilde, are you?”
“I’m not talking about him to you. Can’t you stop this? You followed my friend home. That’s stalking. I’ll report you to the police.”
Now a decent person would have by now gotten the message, but not Reynard Crisp. With that patronising grin he remained steadfast.
“Have dinner with me.”
“I’m not interested. Now leave me alone.” I picked up pace.
“Those images will be leaked. Do you want that? It will destroy your teaching future.”
I stopped walking. “Mrs. Lovechilde gave me her word that they would never surface.”
“How do you think she got them?” That menacing smile returned.
“Why are you doing this?” My voice cracked.
“Because I want you.” He went serious. The smirk had faded, and he trapped me with his piercing stare.
“I’m no longer a virgin.”
His finger slid along my wrist. “I don’t care.”
I pulled my arm away as though I’d been nipped by a snake. “Don’t come fucking near me.”
