Chapter 31

Theadora

Icouldn’thelpbut swoon, seeing Declan there. Especially after Justin said he’d never seen him at the Mariner before, which meant Declan had come to see me.

At that thought, my inner tart danced shamelessly with glee, while the independent version crossed her arms declaring, “Sexy, hot billionaire or not, no man is going to control me.”

Talk about conflicted. But I couldn’t let my heart run away to some fantasy island where a lover with big muscles and sparkling blue eyes welcomed me every day with multiple sheet-clawing orgasms.

We were meant to be a secret. So I was doing him a favour, even if knocking back that drink invite pained me.

Despite this inner turmoil, playing for Mirabel’s stirring song about the sea drowning in plastic proved a highlight of my fledgling musical career.

Justin kept whispering and breathing down my neck.

I wasn’t interested.

How could I be?

Of course, I wanted to leave with Declan and go back to his place and try on whatever sexy item of lingerie he’d picked up for me. My body throbbed with desire thinking about him. It felt strange, us being in the same room and not touching.

Two weeks into this affair, and I kept wondering why he hated committed relationships, while Mirabel’s reference to some scandal involving Declan percolated at the back of my thoughts too.

“Do you want to go out to a club?” Justin asked.

“It’s a bit late, isn’t it?”

“It’s Friday.” He moved his hips around. “We can dance into the morning. There’s a great club in Trentham. Only twenty minutes away.”

I stared over his shoulder. Declan’s eyes burned into mine. I could play this game and go. Drive him crazy. Or would it?

I had a right to do whatever I wanted.

Dance music suddenly blared, and the pub erupted into an impromptu club.

“There’s no need to go anywhere. There’s dancing here,” I said.

He led me by the hand. “Come on. Let’s have a dance.”

Before I could say no, Justin had his hands around my hips and was close to dry-humping me.

Talk about frisky. He’d been drinking.

I stepped away from him but continued to sway my hips with my arms in the air. Others joined us including Savanah, Ethan, and Mirabel, who kept rolling her eyes at Ethan, despite my sensing her attraction.

I closed my eyes and felt a breath on my neck. A familiar scent travelled through my senses, and my nipples tightened.

I turned and was joined by Declan, who, I soon discovered, danced like he fucked, causing my legs to turn to jelly.

His inviting eyes burning into mine.

Oblivious to my new dancing partner, Justin moved in close, and Declan narrowed his eyes.

Ignoring my lover’s dark response, Justin grabbed me.

“Take your hands off her,” Declan said, his chest virtually bumping into Justin’s.

I knew that if I didn’t walk away there’d be a fight, so I left them and hurried outside.
