Stephen had to work to keep his anger in check. “Don’t pretend you don’t know.”

“Know what?”

“These were ones my father forced me to take part in because you always found a way to get out of it. You were sleeping with him, and that meant that you didn’t have to do anything that was untested, or dangerous. I always had to instead.”

Antoinette gave him a stern look. “Don’t be a child, Stephen.”

“I was a child!” he snarled back at her. “You wrapped him around your little finger, got him to do everything you wanted, and I was the one left doing the work. Well, not after tonight.”

Antoinette looked angry now. “You think that’s how things were? Because what I remember is a bratty teenager, who had a chance to be a part of something big, and spent all his time complaining.”

“I was never given a choice about any of it,” Stephen replied.

Antoinette huffed. “I’m done with this. I thought it would be good to meet up again, but I was wrong. I’m leaving, Stephen.”

“No,” Stephen said as he advanced on her. “No, you aren’t.”
