Christopher obviously wasn’t buying it, though. “He’s our best suspect, Paige. Everything about him screams that he’s the killer. Look, if you don’t have anything on him, that’s fine, but don’t tell me it isn’t him. I’m going back in there to take another run at him.”

“Christopher…” Paige began, but he was already heading back into the interrogation room.

It seemed that he’d made up his mind. Paige wished that she was as convinced, but right then, she simply wasn’t. And, if Zint wasn’t the killer, then that meant that the real killer might still be out there somewhere, already plotting his next murder.

Paige needed to find something that would point them towards him. Something that would, at least, convince Christopher that they were looking in the wrong place.

Something that Mark Zint had said caught Paige’s attention then. He’d talked about Sienna being ugly because of a black mark on her face, but there hadn’t been any trace of that mark when she’d been found, had there? It was incongruous, and even if it might prove to be nothing, Paige felt as though that kind of incongruity was her best chance of getting all of this back on track.

She stood, grabbing her laptop.

“Where are you going?” Detective Sanchez asked. “We’re still in the middle of an interrogation.”

“You and Christopher have things here,” Paige said. “If he asks where I’ve gone, tell him that I’m heading to the morgue.”
