“I’ll have traffic check cameras around the area for a truck approaching the theater,” Detective Sanchez said. She stared up at the tank. “This… this is a big step up from safes and bullets. Is it just me, though, or is all this far too close to what happened with Francisco?”

“It’s not just you,” Christopher said.

Paige nodded. The thought of it lent a whole new layer of worry to all of this. It looked like the killer was watching what she and Christopher did, because it was too much of a coincidence for it to be random that he had used a tank full of sharks so soon after their chase through the casino.

That raised one other interesting question, though, one that nagged at Paige, and made her wonder if they might finally have a way to start to crack this case.

“Where is he getting the sharks?” she asked. She put a hand against the side of the tank and the sharks whirled towards her. “Even in Las Vegas, I guess you can’t just walk down to your local pet store and buy a tank full of them. Yet he managed to get his hands on some within a day. He managed to set all of this up in less than twenty-four hours.”

“Which means he was in a rush,” Christopher said. “We assumed that the other murders were carefully planned, but this one can’t have been planned so thoroughly. If he put it all together quickly, maybe he made mistakes.”

“Exactly,” Paige said. “And if we look up dealers in the area, I bet we can find the one who sold the sharks. If they have security cameras, or just keep records of transactions… we might have this guy.”
