“Do you think that’s what your copycat feels?” Paige asked, trying to steer it back around to what she wanted to know. “Do you think he feels everything you feel, or are you better than him too?”

“Is that your play to get me to talk?” Ingram asked. “You’re going to try to make me so jealous of this guy that I just blurt out anything I know about him. Well, maybe I know something and maybe I don’t, but you won’t get me to tell it to you that easily.”

“What would it take to get that information?” Paige asked. Not that she had anything real to offer him.

“Come to my execution, and maybe I’ll tell you something there,” Ingram said. “I’d like to see just how squeamish you are when it comes to death.”

Paige knew in that moment that he was just playing games with her, trying to waste as much of her time as possible. She had no wish to go to his execution and doubted that she would get anything useful even if she did.

“We’re done here,” she said, getting up and going to the door to call for the guard. Paige tried to hide her disappointment as she did so. She’d failed here, gotten nothing useful.

She just had to hope that when she got back to the FBI offices, Christopher would have had more luck with his lead.
