Did he really think that this was about trespassing? That the FBI got called in for that kind of thing? Paige guessed that he was too scared, or too troubled, to think about that clearly right then. But then, what else was he meant to think? It wasn’t as if he knew about the manhunt that had brought Paige and Christopher there.
"Has anyone else been here?" Christopher asked. He obviously still wasn't giving up on the possibility that Riker had used this place as a bolt hole. "Someone who would have come in last night or earlier today?"
The homeless guy shook his head, though. "No, there's been no one but me."
“You’re sure?”
Paige saw him nod. “I’d tell you if there had been. I don’t want any trouble.”
Which meant that they'd come to the wrong place. Paige had led them to the wrong place. She'd been so sure that she'd found where Adam would try to hide, but instead, she'd just wasted time that they could be using to try to catch up to him.
Paige realized something worse in that moment: Adam had tricked her.
When he'd mentioned the house in his sessions, he must have known that Paige would look into it. He’d planted the seed of this place, precisely because he’d known that when he escaped, someone would ask Paige for her opinion about where he might go. Of course, he wouldn't come here after that. He'd sent them in the wrong direction, and bought himself time to either escape...
...or to do something else. Something worse.
