“Haven’t you already read that one?” Hue asked.
“Yes, but we are taking it chapter by chapter, not wanting to miss a thing.” She grinned.
“Learning anything?” He wiggled an eyebrow at her.
“Would you like me to tell you or show you?” She closed her eyes, but images of Hue Strong naked and bound to her bed had her snapping her eyes open, blushing.
“Either way, Nordskov.” He reached over and tapped her nose as he looked into her eyes.
Amanda hoped he didn’t notice the blush. “Maybe when we’re done with it. Wouldn’t want to get it wrong.” She looked away from him since his blue eyes were boring into her.
“How is the clinic going, Dr. Nordskov?” he asked, changing the topic completely.
“I’m not a doctor, and you know that,” was her answer, realizing that she had made him uncomfortable. She was just his friend’s big sister, one who shouldn’t tease him about sex.
“Nurse practitioner Nordskov just doesn’t have the same ring to it.”
“It’s going well. More people are coming to me than before. I’m starting to be busy most days now.” She told the truth. When she had first opened the doors of the clinic, she only got a handful of patients. It had worried her in the beginning. Now, after almost a year, she was mostly busy.
“I’m glad you’re there. It’s nice to have a not-doctor closer than over an hour away,” Hue admitted, something she heard a lot.
“Some of the people I don’t see are the ones I know. They’re uncomfortable coming to me. But I can understand that.” She gathered all the empty wrappers and fry containers and put them back in the bag. Even the ball Hue had thrown at her.
“I wouldn’t want to see a lot of the people in this town naked,” he teased her. It was a part of her job that he liked to talk about. Naked people.
“Am I in that category?” She held the bag to her, realizing she shouldn’t have said that.
“You, Nordskov, are at the top of the willing-to-see-naked category,” he said with a wink and a smile. A joke.
Sighing in relief, she frowned. “Thanks, I think.”
“Would you want to see me naked?” he asked, touching her nose with his index finger.
“I will when I show you what I learned in Fifty Shades of Grey.” She tested him, but really, she kind of wanted to see him naked. A lot.
“I look forward to it.” He looked away from her and shifted in his seat.
Again, she realized she had made him uncomfortable. Sometimes they could tease about sexual stuff, but sometimes it made him uncomfortable. She understood—she was his friend’s older sister and not exactly his type.
“How is your mom?” She moved the conversation away from sex.
“You would know better than me,” he answered since his mom was one of her patients.
“Are you mad she sees me?” She replied, glancing over at him.
“No, it’s fine. She just doesn’t tell me what she sees you about,” he said, no longer smiling.
Sighing, she told him the truth. “I can’t tell you.”
“I know. I wish she would.”
“I can tell you it’s nothing for you to worry about.” Amanda closed her heavy eyelids.
“I still worry. I mean, she is my mom. I just think she should tell me.”
Amanda heard but didn’t respond as the busy morning and emotional afternoon caught up with her, and she let her mind drift. But sadly, it drifted to thoughts of Hue tied to her bed. Really nice thoughts.
