“Even though we are in the middle of nowhere, and your siblings could come looking for you at any moment?” he said as her hands tugged at his shirt until she had it untucked and could slide her hands over his bare skin.

One of her hands reached behind him and turned off the machine. “Now we can hear them coming.” Her hand went back under his shirt.

“Did you plan this?” he asked as she undid his belt.

“No, Kit does drive like a maniac. This was just a bonus.” As she went onto her tiptoes and kissed him, he returned the kiss and held her head to keep her lips on his. They were cold from the freezing temperatures, but her tongue was hot and made his blood boil. Or maybe it was her hand that had found its way into his jeans and was holding his erection.

“I like bonuses.” He let go of her face and watched as she freed him from his pants into the frosty air. Before he could protest that it was maybe too cold for this, he watched her take his straining cock in her warm mouth.

Leaning against the machine behind him for support, he closed his eyes—the sight was too much for him to take. It had been close to a decade since a woman had done this to him. And his ex-wife hadn’t been as good at it as Amanda was. Warm hands were holding him around the waist under his jacket, keeping her hands warm. Needing to touch her, he pulled off her hat and cupped her head, tangling his fingers into her hair, not caring that in a few minutes, she would have to face her family. Because only this moment mattered right now.

Knowing he was going to come, he tapped her on the head, then he said it out loud, but still she didn’t let him go. In fact, she held him tighter, her mouth moving faster as her fingers pressed into his skin. He couldn’t stop his orgasm as it rolled over him, and he watched as her mouth didn’t leave his erection.

When he was done, she lifted his boxers back over his cock, zipped his pants, and redid his belt. All her concentration was on redressing him as she tucked his shirt in and lowered his jacket. Her blue eyes were bright and alert and she looked up at him, then she pulled his lips to hers and kissed him.

Wrapping his arms around her, he pulled her tight against him and lifted her off her feet, needing her as close to him as possible. Around them, the woods was quiet, and he heard nothing but her breathing. They were completely alone in the cold. A cold he couldn’t feel when Amanda was in his arms.

Pushing away from him, she reached down to grab her mittens and his gloves that were beside him on the machine, and said, “We should go. Maybe that took too long.”

As she handed him his gloves, he let his hands linger where they touched. “Do you want to drive or ride?”

She looked up in the air as if pondering his question. It was like nobody had ever offered the choice to her before. Her voice was excited as she quirked an eyebrow at him. “Drive.”

Knowing she was going to drive, he kissed her one last time and climbed on the back of the machine. Scooting back, he helped her settle in front of him. Then he slid forward and settled his hands between her jacket and clothes, holding on to her under the jacket.

Turning the key, she said loudly, “They never let me drive.”

“I hope that they don’t have good reason for that.” He nipped her ear as he said it.

“Moving trees,” was all she said as she hit the accelerator, and they started for Math’s house.

Hue hugged her closer and laughed at her answer. As they drove through the light layer of snow, he hoped none of the siblings would catch on to what had happened. Or maybe he hoped they would, so he could tell someone about this amazing woman he was falling in love with.

CHAPTER12

Amanda did not hitany trees during the trail ride, which she was proud of. They were sneaky, after all.

Math had commented on her past incidents when they had finally pulled into his yard, checking for damage as he walked around the machine. Maybe it had taken longer than it should have to get there, but she didn’t regret what had taken all the time.

Being able to drive had made her less nervous about the rough conditions. It made her not think every bump was going to start a miscarriage that would be her fault. A miscarriage that would be caused by her actions and not her body’s rejection.

Or maybe it was that Hue was holding her tight; he wasn’t going to let anything happen to her. Or the baby, even if he didn’t know it was there. Hue’s arms would protect them from everything.

Waking up this morning, Amanda had wondered if it had all been a dream. That Hue Strong had not woken her from a deep sleep and made love to her. Her, Amanda. But the evidence was overwhelming with him still in her bed. Still sleeping, she had been able to watch him for a while, just enjoying the moment.

Not too long since they had to be at Math’s early for the trail ride. She would have gladly passed up trail riding to spend the time with Hue instead, if it wouldn’t have caused too many questions. Whoever had planned this as a first thing in the morning activity should be punished. Amanda only had little time to enjoy the man in her bed before she had to get up.

Having him join her in the shower had been the pick-me-up she had needed. The post-sex glow had lasted past not getting to ride with Hue on the trail ride and right up to her sister trying to kill her. Well, maybe that was dramatic; her sister was only trying to kill her baby.

By the time Kit had kicked her off the machine, Amanda was well past done with her little sister’s driving. At that point, she would gladly have walked back to Math’s house, no matter the distance. She couldn’t take another moment on that machine.

But getting to spend time alone with Hue again had been a better plan. A way better plan. And then he had let her drive back as slow as she wanted, without saying a word about it. She should have driven a bit faster to make up for the time they had spent stopped on the trail, but then Hue would have to let go of her sooner, so no way was that happening.

Now, walking into the house, she hoped they thought she was red from the cold and not because of the memories of why they were late. Now she was suddenly glad for the chilly weather this morning. Or maybe because she was out of the cold now.

“Look who made it back. I was going to send a search party,” Julia said from the counter where she was helping Tess make food.

“It wasn’t that long. Amanda drove,” Hue said, as if that explained it all.
