She wondered how many people he had helped at the expense of his reputation, but she wasn’t going to press.

For now, she wouldn’t pursue what had led him onto that path.

Clearly, it was something painful, something harmful even before his mother died. She understood the loss of a parent. She missed her mother dearly.

Satisfied, more than satisfied for now, she snuggled in closer to him.

They had each other. They’d support each other and accept each other.

Neither of them needed to be so entirely alone anymore.

She’d never really minded the loneliness, or so she’d told herself. But now, here in his arms, she found that this? This was something she’d never known she was missing.
