"Beautiful," he breathed, kneeling before her. He slid her legs over his shoulders, hauling her bottom across the desk until her cunny was before his face. His eyes darkened with a wild hunger that made her squirm.

They had never done such an intimate thing before, and yet, she could not tell him to stop. She wanted to know what came next. What he would give her.

She did not have to wait long. He slid his tongue along her inner thigh, leaving a wake of goosebumps across her flesh before his mouth settled on her, his tongue flicking the sensitive bud that wept for his touch.

Sutton gasped, clasping his hair in her hands, holding him against her. Never had pleasure wracked her so quickly, not even when they had lain together last. This gratification was instant, and she could not get enough.

He lathed, kissed, teased, suckled until she thought she would lose her mind. He did not relent, pushed her to the brink until she could not hold on any longer. Spasm after spasm thrummed through her body. She undulated against his lips, taking all he would give her and then some. The pleasure was as sweet as she remembered it and as addicting as she knew it to be.

She would never get enough of his touch. She needed a husband, and soon, before she drove herself mad.

He kissed her thigh and knee as he slid her dress back over her limbs before slipping them off his shoulders and standing. For a moment, she stared at Logan, oddly embarrassed by her reaction to his touch, his kisses, before he seized her lips, kissing her deep and long.

She kissed him back with all that she had, tasting herself upon his tongue. She liked what she discovered. He groaned, wrenching her against him, placing her cunny against his cock. He ripped at her gown, pooling it at her waist, but did not try to take her.

Instead, he ground against her wet, aching flesh, his rigid cock sending a frisson of pleasure through her again. "Logan," she gasped, suckling his tongue as he rode against her. Sutton wasn't entirely sure what he was doing, but what she did know was that his movements teased her a second time, made her want once again what he had just gifted her minutes before.

"I'm going to spend against you. Tell me that I can," he begged, taking her lips and not giving her a moment to answer as he ripped his draws open.

She broke the embrace. "You may do whatever you like, Logan. You always could." And that was the truth of it. No matter how much time passed, what hurts had spread between them, he would always be the man she had given her heart and soul to.

And if she were honest with herself, she never really gained it back.

"You're so beautiful," he hissed, their bodies alive and taking from each other what they could not get elsewhere, with anyone else. Their actions were madness, but she would not change a moment of it.

Pleasure convulsed through her, spiraling between her legs and out to every part of her body. Sutton keened, Logan's kiss soon swallowing the sound of her release. He groaned, and hot liquid warmed her stomach, but she could not care. Not ever.

No. All she cared for was the man in her arms and what they were capable of together when they were not arguing about the past.

A small smile quirked his lips. "Are you certain this changes nothing between us, Sutton?" he asked her, serious.

For a moment, she could not answer, her mind fuzzy with recent euphoria, but then his question penetrated her foggy, lustful thoughts. "It does not. You are still free to marry a woman of your choosing just as I shall marry a man of mine."

"Very well," he stated, stepping back and adjusting his clothing, tying his front falls back in place, and fixing his shirt and waistcoat. "Will you be at the Guinness outdoor ball tomorrow evening? I'm certain you have other points from your book you wish to test? I'm at your disposal if you do," he said, all business once again and all signs of her lover of only minutes before gone.

"I have accepted the invitation, yes. I shall see you tomorrow night."

Without giving her another look, Logan fled the room, his footsteps determined and quick down the corridor. She stared at the door, unsure what was happening between them—if anything—or if they were merely causing trouble for themselves. Causing old hurts to resurface and new hopes to be dashed.

They had not worked six years ago. There was little chance they would succeed if she forgave him and gave him a second chance. And then, after all they had done to each other, Sutton was unsure if she wanted to try.

Chapter 10

The following evening Logan could not fathom why he was at the Guinness outdoor ball, putting himself into a spiral of constant torment. There was no friendship with Sutton. No matter how the sight of the woman made his blood race, their time was gone. She had chosen that future for them. Had not trusted his word and believed her lying brother instead.

That had not changed.

Even if they could not keep their hands to themselves when they were alone.

A bloody mess all around.

He rubbed a hand over his face, wondering if this was where he was in his life. Lying to himself and keeping his distance from the women he ought to be courting who were not named Sutton Howard. Women with whom there were no sullen histories, broken hearts, or hurts. Women who wanted a title, affection, and a family. He ought to forget about Sutton, let her find her husband herself, and be done with her. Be done with his past.

He caught sight of her through the crowd. This evening she wore a gown of gold silk with a rounded neckline, a deep-navy-blue tunic overlaying the dress, divided at the front and cut away at the sides.

Sutton appeared lissome and more beautiful than he'd ever seen her before, and he knew all his thoughts—what he ought to do and not—were a fallacy.

He would do none of those things, for he could not get her out of his mind, nor did he want to see her marry anyone.
