Gavin shook his head. “Not right now. Mr. Weber and I have to talk, but I’ll be there soon.” He kissed her and then handed her off to Chase.
Chase held her against his chest.
“I want my daddy. I want Gavin,” she cried.
Chase hugged her tightly against his chest. “I know, honey. He’ll be home soon.” He held her all the way back to the condo, but her mind was on Gavin, and she prayed he didn’t get hurt.
Chapter Fourteen
Gavin’s phone rang.
“Hey, it’s me,” Chase said.
“How’s she doing?”
“Okay. She’s sleeping, but she keeps crying out for you.”
“I’ll be there soon. What did Maclean say?”
“I’ll text you the address. He’ll meet you there at eight. He’s very curious about what you want to talk about.”
“He probably knows me as a cop.”
“No, I told him what we did now and that what you had to show him would benefit him.”
“Good.”
“Are you sure you don’t want me there?”
“I’m positive. Stay with my girl.”
“I will. Be safe.”
“I will.”
He gave Manny the information before he checked on Weber again. The man was a mess but conscious and pleading with him, and that was the way Gavin wanted him. He wanted the fucker to be aware of the situation and feel every bit of fear that he’d caused so many people in the past.
He checked his watch. “Let’s head there.”
Gavin drove across town to another warehouse with Manny close behind.
A few expensive black cars were already there, so Gavin pulled up several feet away from them and got out. The warehouse door was open, and several other men were there with guns, keeping a lookout.
“Are you Barcina?” one man asked.
Gavin nodded.
The man walked to one of the cars and knocked.
Alastair Maclean stepped out, and he was every bit as powerful as he’d heard he was.
“Mr. Barcina,” Alastair said and stopped a few feet from him. “What is it I can do for you?”
“It’s actually something I can do for you.” Gavin told him the story from the auction until that moment.
“I see.” Alastair tipped his head to Weber’s car. “Bring him in. I’d like to see his face when he hears the tape.”
They dragged a screaming Weber in and tied him to a chair.
