She stared at the toilet for a moment and then shook her head.
“Okay, I will get you a shirt to wear tonight.” He pulled out a toothbrush and paste. “Do you think you can brush your teeth on your own, honey?”
She focused on what he was holding and then nodded.
He got her in front of the sink. “I’ll be right—” Fuck, her legs buckled. Fortunately, he was close enough to lift her in his arms. So much for that. Her mouth would feel awful the next day, but that would be her fault, and it might be a reason for her never to drink alcohol again. “How about I get you in bed?”
She murmured something against his neck. He laid her on the bed and then hurried to get the shirt. When he got back, she was curled up on her side and asleep.
Gavin sighed. At least he could make her comfortable. He pulled off her shoes and set them by the nightstand. Then he slid down the zipper at the back of her dress without a problem, but he had to tug it a few times to get it off her. Now she was down to her bra and panties, and he ignored the sight of her curves and the shadow of her cunt through her white panties.
He decided to leave her bra on. She wouldn’t be as comfortable, but he didn’t want her to think he took advantage of her. After putting the shirt on, he rolled up the sleeves, slid her under the covers, and stood back.
A feeling of rightness filled him at that moment. It was like she was where she was supposed to be: in his bed and his life.
“Damn.” He sighed before turning to the bathroom, where he shed his clothes, jumped into the shower, and washed quickly because he didn’t want to leave her alone if she needed him.
After, he pulled on some shorts, brushed his teeth, and turned off the bedroom lights. He made sure the bathroom light was on and cracked the door to avoid her getting frightened if she woke up in the middle of the night. He slid into the bed, lay on his side, and propped his head up on the palm of his hand so he could study her.
She had long, dark-brown hair and chocolate-brown eyes. He noticed her complexion was a darker tone, telling him she might have some South American blood, or maybe Italian or Native Indian.
His family had come from El Salvador when he was young. His parents passed away after he joined the police force, and his brother had taken off. Every once in a while, he’d get a call from him, but otherwise, he hadn’t seen him in years.
Chase, his partner in the police force and friend, had become his family. It worked because Chase didn’t have any family at all since he’d grown up in foster care.
Now that they’d joined the security business, Travis, Kane, Caleb, and the others had started a few years before, his family had grown to include them and also the few littles some of them had.
Alexa mumbled something in her sleep and then rolled toward him. When she had tucked herself close to him, she sighed and fell back asleep.
Hell. He knew he’d be uncomfortable just being near her. Now, she was pressed along his body, making him ache worse than he could ever remember.
He could do nothing about it, so he sucked it up, closed his eyes, and eventually fell asleep.
Chapter Five
Alexa rolled over onto her back in bed and groaned. Her mouth tasted like something died in it, her stomach ached, and her head throbbed. She lifted her hands to press on her forehead, but it didn’t help. Then she tried opening her eyes, but the sunlight coming into the room made her stomach roll, and a piercing pain zipped through her skull.
She slammed her eyes shut and curled on her side again.
“Hey, honey.”
The bed shifted like someone had sat down. She pried her eyelids open a bit to stare up at the man.
“Gavin?”
He grinned. “Yes.”
“What happened?”
“You drank the margarita last night. It didn’t agree with you.”
“What did I do?”
“Mostly just passed out.”
Her eyes carefully scanned the room. “Whose room is this?”
“Mine,” he said.
