Chapter Three

Relaxing was hard for Avery. The man who had been in every single one of her fantasies was now offering her something she’d only ever dreamed about.

The filet of beef was medium rare, and so tender. She didn’t taste the food, though. Her thoughts were on that file containing a relationship agreement. It wasn’t just the agreement, it was the fact she had no idea Dominic Wright was this wealthy.

“You don’t have to worry,” he said.

“I’m not worried. I’m just overwhelmed. The food is good.” She tried to think of something that was kind of neutral. Food was neutral, right?

He took her hand, and gave it a little squeeze. “Stop worrying. Nothing is going to happen that you don’t want.”

“I don’t know what you want.”

“You’ve been watching me for some time. From the first moment you entered Darkest Dreams, you were watching me.”

Heat filled her cheeks, and she gritted her teeth. “I’m sorry.”

“You don’t need to be sorry. I’m not. I love your gaze on me. I also love seeing you blush.”

“Oh.” She took another bite of the beef, chewing it, and swallowing it down.

“Avery, I’m not trying to worry you.”

“I’m not worried.”

“You’re lying.” He sat back, sipping at his water. “Try and treat me like the man you knew.”

“This is almost impossible for me.” She put the knife and fork down, gesturing all around her. “I’m no one, and this is completely out of this world.”

He sighed. “I can’t change who I am.”

“I know. I’m just … processing.”

She stared into his dark eyes, aware of how deep they seemed to look within her.

“Will you be honest with me?”

“Of course.”

“What is your head saying?” he asked.

“That I should run, and get away. I have no idea who you are. You’re a rich man, used to getting what you want.”

“What is your heart saying?”

“That I’ve been watching you for some time at Darkest Dreams. I look over at the file, and I wonder what it could all mean.”

“Answer this question for me, do you want me?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“Then that’s all we need to know. Everything else can fall into place.” He pushed back from the table. “Come here.” He moved his plate out of the way, making a space for her. She stood in front of him, and he pressed her down to the table. “At any time you tell me to stop.”

“Okay.”

Suddenly, he stood, and she tilted her head back to look up at him. His hands went from her waist, moving up her arms to cup her face. His thumb ran across her lips. “I’m going to kiss you now.”

She wasn’t going to argue. For so long she had been fantasizing about what it would be like to have his lips on top of hers. The moment his lips touched hers, Avery knew she couldn’t walk away. He didn’t press further, and he held her chin as he kissed her. Closing her eyes, she released a little moan as he ran his tongue over her lips.
