“Into town, why?”

“Why has she gone into town?”

“She’s looking for a job.” Teri released a squeal, and clapped her hands. “She’s going to stay. Finally, after so long I’m going to have my sister with me.”

“You do know that sisters are supposed to hate each other, right?” Damon asked, taking a bite out of an apple he had just stolen.

“Screw you, Damon. Not all sisters hate each other. I happen to adore mine, and will do anything for her.” She grabbed both of their jackets. “Now get out of my kitchen. It’s not sanitary to have you guys back here. Leave.”

Paul left the kitchen, and looked around the large kitchen. Leo wasn’t around, and he had disappeared while Paul had been in the shower.

Pulling out his cell phone, he dialed Leo’s number.

It wasn’t that he couldn’t function without his friend.

They could do other things without each other.

“Hello,” Leo asked.

“Where are you?”

“I am with Skylar. Well, she’s inside the library at the moment. We’ve just been to three different places, and she’s given them an application. I think to be honest, she needs to work wherever she feels comfortable. I’m thinking the library though. There is an opening for a part-time person to help deal with customers and stuff.”

“How about I join you?”

“You want to spend the day with me and Skylar?”

“I couldn’t think of anything better.”

“Okay. Get your butt down here, Paul.”

He was already making his way out of the diner, ignoring Damon as he spoke. Straddling his bike, he turned the engine over.

“Paul?”

“Yeah.”

“I get the feeling that she has been through so much already. I think it would be worth taking our time with her.”

Paul paused. “We haven’t talked about this.”

“We both know we want her, Paul. I’m not going to pretend I don’t.”

“We’ll talk.”

“Okay.”

Hanging up his cell, he was about to pull out of the diner’s parking lot when Damon stopped him.

“Where the fuck are you going? James asked us to help Lucy out today, remember?”

Paul groaned.

With Dane, Lucy’s husband—or at least soon to be ex-husband—back, they had been providing some help in buffering the relationship between Dane and his family.

Dane had left his family, just got up one day, and didn’t come home for a good few years.

The club had tried to look for him. One of them had even gone out to check out all the leads, but they had come to nothing. The problem with Dane was simple. He would have only ever been found when he wanted to.
