“He’s my brother and I love him, but at times he really pisses me off.”

“It’s unusual for a woman to not be interested in him. I watched Cora today, and she was only interested in you. It hurt him. He’ll get over it in time.”

“Don’t give a fuck.” James was used to being passed over for his brother, and he wasn’t pissing and moaning about it. He wasn’t going to lie. It was a refreshing change to have a woman only looking at him, which Cora was. She didn’t show the slightest bit of interest in Pixie.

You did get your dick sucked and fucked today.

Caleb slapped him on the back. “He’ll get over it. It’s Pixie. There’ll be other women for him to go chasing around.”

“Whatever.” He tipped his beer back, taking a long swallow.

“I’m going in. I’m in the mood for some Kitty Cat.”

Rolling his eyes, James stayed outside, thinking about everything that had happened just recently, not just in his club but outside. A couple of months ago he’d been called by The Skulls to let him know that Lash had taken over as club Prez. It amazed him at times why they even bothered getting in touch. He wouldn’t touch T

he Skulls and Chaos Bleeds, or their mess. Sure, the leaders were fine—well, Tiny was all right, but James wasn’t about to change who he was for anyone. They were both good clubs, but it wasn’t something he was going to ever get involved in. There was too much danger with both clubs.

The Dirty Fuckers MC wasn’t for everyone, but it suited all of the men in the club. He took another long drink, looking out over the town. Nothing bad happened here. There was no shit, drugs, gunfights, or mess for them to clean up. Unlike the shit he’d heard going down in Fort Wills and Piston County. What happened there was the clubs’ business, not his. They had all been part of the fighting world for as long as James could remember. His club wasn’t dealing with any of that shit, not anymore. They could all take care of themselves, and the club, but the fact they didn’t have to, was a great relief to him.

Cora.

She was one of the first good things to happen in his life. He’d seen her around town. James had recognized her when Pixie brought her to the backroom. At the time he’d not been able to remember where, but when she’d been talking with Teri, he recognized her. She’d been in the diner regularly, and he’d seen her many times around town. Every time he’d seen her, she’d always caught his eye, but he’d never acted on it. There was enough pussy at the club so that they didn’t have to go looking elsewhere. James hadn’t taken the time to stop and talk to her. He didn’t really know what would have happened if he did. Now, he just sounded like a pussy.

“Thought I’d find you here,” Teri said, coming out of the same door that Caleb had moments before.

“And here I thought I was hiding,” James said. “Can’t a guy get a fucking break?”

She took a seat beside him, snagging his drink. He didn’t put up a fight with her. She took several swallows before handing it back to him. “There’s no fucking break for the wicked, James. You should know that by now.” He nodded in agreement, and Teri took another long swallow of his drink. “It was busy at the diner today.”

“Business is booming,” he said.

“Cora’s really something, isn’t she?”

“She is.” James stared straight ahead of him.

“James, look at me,” Teri said.

He turned toward her, giving her his gaze. “What?”

“I’ve known Cora a while. We’re not friends like she and Stacey are, but we talk. She’s not like other women.”

“And what would you say she’s like?” he asked.

“I think you know. She’s not the kind of woman who settles down with one man or is controlled.” Teri ran her hands up and down her thighs before she continued talking. “I’ve never seen her with a guy twice in a row. She’s happy to have some fun, which isn’t a problem at all. Cora’s a free spirit.”

“Why are you telling me this?”

“I watched you watch her. I care about you, James. You’re a great fuck, but I consider you a close friend. I’d hate to see you get hurt.”

“Cora’s not going to hurt me.”

“Not intentionally but she will hurt you if you’re after what I think you’re after.”

James let out a sigh, growing frustrated. “Just tell me what you’re trying not to tell me.” He was even confused by that statement. Clearly, Teri wanted to say something, but she wasn’t being blunt with him. James wasn’t in the mood to play twenty questions.

“I believe you’re at risk of falling in love with Cora, and she’s not capable of loving you back.”

He burst out laughing. The idea of him falling in love was completely absurd.
