Chapter 9
Mother Wolfe, Her Resolve and His Dream
Aria
Let me recap for a second; I had a heart-to-heart talk about my emotional situation with Nick to Alyson and Michael. I concluded that I was serious about Nick and decided to make him my sole focus.
Nick showed up late hand in arm, with my mother whom he mistook as a client. My mother and I were having one of her ‘girl talks’ and she started talking about my romance life and announced to me that she had gotten me a suitor.
“Mother, you did what?” I kept my cool, careful not to raise my voice. Mother was the type to bitch-slap if I did.
“I got you a suitor,” she repeated, “three of them actually.”
“Wait, what do you mean?”
“It’s exactly what it means.” She sighed, “You have 3 months to go out with three of them, whoever you think is worthy of the Wolfe name, you would marry.”
“That’s absurd!” I didn’t realize I had raised my voice.
Her smiling expression didn’t waver, her eyes seemed to grow darker though.
“Pardon me,” I said, “Still, I can’t do what you’ve asked mother.”
“And why is that?”
“That’s because… I-I already have someone in… mind,” my voice trailed off a little as I imagined Nick.
“Please tell me it’s not Michael,” she rubbed her forehead, “He’s your best friend yes but that’ll be boring.”
“My relationship life is meant to be some sort of entertainment?” I asked in disbelief.
“Isn’t it?” She returned.
“You’re unbelievable,” I muttered, “It’s not Michael.”
“Oh?” She raised a brow, “Who then?”
“Not your business,” I shifted in my chair, “Just know I don’t need your help in getting a man of my choice.”
My mother was quiet. The smile on her face slowly transitioned into a serious one.
“I know Wolf Pack isn’t the only business you run,” she said, “I don’t think I need to tell you how I found out.”
I was silent.
“Soon you’ll become a billionaire, once the other two companies you own close in their current project deals.” She continued, “Who would’ve thought you owned a construction company working directly with the government. Maybe that explains why you’re being friendly with Loid and ensuring you’re on his good side along with others running in different states.”
“I don’t get what you’re trying to say,” I said.
“You slept with most of them and others to get where you are, nothing has ever stopped and nothing seems like it will,” she continued, “With time you would become even more powerful and beyond the control of both me and your father.”
“I still don’t…”
“Do you know what happens to a woman with too much power and no limiters?” she asked. “They get clipped, especially if they got to the top through… unusualmeans.”
I understood what she was trying to say.
“You need to be tamed Aria,” she said, “The you of now is too unstable.”
