Glancing around, I ducked in and watched as Avery stared at three plates with a thoughtful gaze. “Hey, bartender. Can I get your number?” I teased her, watching Avery jump.

“You scared the life out of me. What are you doing in here?” Avery asked as she turned to smack me in the shoulder.

“I saw you and wanted to say hi. What do you have here?” I asked, looking at the decadent desserts on the plates.

“I am working some new things on the menu and made these today. Can you help me decide since I love all three of them?”

“That’ll be great for the hours I just spent exercising.” I joked as she looked me over for a moment with hungry eyes.

“Please. I thought I’d have to try them myself and make the choice. I only need two of them besides the coffee cake and beignets, which are both cinnamon themed.”. Avery pleaded with her beautiful eyes as I shrugged. “I need to decide and teach everyone how to make this.”

“I heard the beignets were a hit at the event,” I told her, leaning over the plates to look everything over. The fruit already looked the best, and I took the offered fork from her and took a taste of each item.

The first looked like custard between layers of a flaky crust and topped with chocolate. It presented well and tasted great, but when I took a bite of the chocolate cake and a hot filling poured out, I moaned out loud.

Avery giggled as she took her own bites, chewing as she rated her food.

I finished off with a bite of the fruit, swiping the water from beside her and taking a long drink. “Hmmm. They’re all so good,” I murmured as I tapped my chin in thought, thinking all about risks.

“What does that mean? You must decide which one you like the best.” Avery said as her face fell.

“I think I need to taste all of them on your lips,” I murmured, leaning closer to Avery as her eyes widened. “That’s going to give me my answer.”

“Jack! Someone might see us!” Avery hissed as I turned back to make sure nobody seemed to be coming through the door. I chuckled and hopped back behind the bar, ducking down and pulling her with me as I kissed her sweet mouth.

Avery straddled me as she moaned, wrapping her arms around my neck. I could taste a hint of everything and sucked her lower lip into my mouth as I pulled her against me.

I pushed her to her back as she stared up at me, a look of need in her eyes. “You are lucky the floors are clean, Jack.” Avery warned as I lowered my face down to kiss her again.

I kissed her for several moments, teasing her with little nips as she held in her moans. “We could make it dirty again, Avery.”

“I don’t think so. They’ll be opening in a little while.” Avery reminded me as I let out an exaggerated sigh. She smiled, and I gazed into her eyes.

“Want to get together later and finish this?” I asked her as she shook her head.

“I can’t. I have plans with Charlie tonight. Can I take a rain check?” She asked as she leaned up to kiss me again.

“I knew that might be a problem with this arrangement.” I teased her, trying to sound more hurt than I was. We all knew going in what this would be like, and I’d get my time with her when I could.

“I’ll make it up to you, Jack. Promise.” Avery gave me a kiss that spoke volumes, and I closed my eyes as our tongues danced together.

“I’ll hold you to that,” I assured her, moving up to make sure we were still alone. She brushed herself off as I made my way around the bar. “By the way, definitely go with the fruit and that chocolate cake.”

Avery stood up with a smile on her face. “You don’t like the fancy French pastry?”

“That’s delicious as well, but that chocolate cake rocked. That’s going to taste good on a chilly night after being on the slopes all day. I think you might have a new customer.” As she laughed, smiled. “I’ll call you and we’ll make plans.”

“That sounds great,” she assured me as I pushed back from the bar. After finishing her water, I turned to leave. I walked out of the bar and through the hallway to see if Jefferson needed anything.

I stopped in the bathroom to make sure I didn’t look too messy from making out with his sister, fixing my hair that she loved to grab. Hoping that nobody took notice of that as I left the bar, I grinned at the memory.

I walked back into the hall and finished the walk to Jefferson, tapping on his door. I heard him call out to come in and I pushed it all the way open. “Hey, buddy. Are you all set for the slopes to open?” I asked as he typed something on his computer.

“Getting there. We’re just making sure the lifts are all in good shape and that the mountain looks good at this point. I think we have an excellent staff this year and it’s going to be a great season.” Jefferson sipped his coffee as he looked at me. “Are you looking forward to being back out there?”

“I’ve been working out like a beast. I’m even taking the morning yoga class here for some flexibility. I’m going to be more than ready.” I boasted as Jefferson chuckled. “Do you need anything done around here?”

“Maybe some pictures in a day or so when I know the lifts are in good shape? I’ll let you know. Apart from that, how does some lunch sound? I got here early today and I’m starving.” Jefferson stretched, and we both heard my stomach growl.
