“Oh,” Sara said, feeling awkward at having cock blocked him.
“It won’t be happening,” Rhett said, his eyes smoldering as he took a step closer to her.
Me? Is this guy more interested in me than a sure thing like Janell?
It made her stomach jump and her sex heat up. She wanted clarification to make sure her imagination wasn’t just assuming things that had no basis in reality. “What won’t be? You going home with Janell, or you going home alone?”
“Both.”
She gulped.
Rhett seemed unbothered. “So, you run a bed and breakfast. That sounds fun, but what else do you do for fun?”
Sara forced herself to pull it together and participate in the conversation rather than getting swept away in a fantasy about the man standing in front of her. “Hmmm. I like to read and cook. Well, anything in the kitchen, really. I love gardening and being outdoors. The forest is like a second home to me. What about you? What do you like to do for fun?”
She smoothly avoided admitting that the reason she loved the outdoors and woods was because she was a witch. She wasn’t sure what Rhett thought about witches, or even if he was a human who didn’t know about her kind.
“I can't lie. I'm an outdoorsy kind of guy. There's something about being outside, in nature, that just somehow soothes my soul. I guess it's because no matter where I look, I see the beauty of the world around us … in the trees, colorful flowers, the clouds. All you have to do is just take a look around and let it all sink in. I know it probably sounds cheesy, but nonetheless, it's true.”
It didn’t sound cheesy. From Rhett, it sounded romantic. Poetic.
“I feel the same way. The only time I don't like to be outside is in the rain or when it's super cold. I really don't find much fun in freezing half to death,” she laughed.
“Yeah, I really don't like it when it hurts to breathe because the air is so cold. So I'm with you there. Those days are best spent snuggled up in front of a cozy fire.”
“With a good movie,” Sara agreed.
“Agreed.” They shared another smile, making Sara feel all sorts of worked up. Was this really happening?
“So, how did you manage to find yourself here tonight, Sara?” Rhett asked.
Hearing her name on his lips sent a tingle from her ears down her neck. It was beautiful.
“I met Barbara at a … thing, … and she invited me.” Again, she avoided admitting her witch side. “And you?”
“I grew up here … in this pack,” he replied. “But I ended up moving away to a bigger town that had more of a demand for my business.”
Her heart sank. Rhett didn’t live here, which meant seeing him tonight was probably a one-time thing.
Well, that didn’t mean she couldn’t enjoy his attentions tonight, right?
