Why did he feel like everything inside him lit up while he looked at her?

Mine. His wolf spoke in a way he’d never heard it before.

He looked back at Barbara and Tristan, bewildered.

They both were looking back at him with knowing grins.

“She’ll be at the scenting ceremony at our place next week,” Barbara said. “As usual, you’re invited to attend.”

“I don’t know if I can …” he trailed off. What didn’t he know? If he could attend the event? If he could find the nerve to face something he’d avoided for this long in his life … finding and claiming his mate?

“Well, it’s up to you.” Barbara shrugged, taking her phone back.

The loss of Sara’s photo stung. His empty hand felt much more lonely than before he’d seen her photo.

“The worst that could happen is you check the woman out, don’t feel anything, then go home,” Barbara continued.

“No, isn’t the worst thing if I show up and meet her and realize I can’t live my life without her?”

Tristan and Barbara exchanged a loving smile.

“No, my friend,” Tristan said, patting him on the shoulder. “That’s not the worst thing at all.”
