“Is she okay?” Barbara asked her husband, who stood sentry over Sara.

“She seems to be,” he said, backing away as Barbara sat on the couch beside Sara and placed the cold washcloth on her forehead. “Her heartbeat is steady, as is her breathing. I think this whole ordeal was just too much,”

“Sara,” she called out, hoping her friend would quickly regain consciousness. She looked back at Tristan. “Can you grab an ice pack?”

“Yeah, I’ll get it.”

“What happened to you?” Barbara murmured, looking back at Sara. “How did you shift into a wolf?”

Her questions went unanswered. Tristan returned with the ice pack, and she gratefully took it from him. “Would you mind going back to our room and finding a nightgown of mine or a big shirt for her to wear? She won’t like waking up naked in a strange place.”

He nodded, left, and returned quickly with a big oversized shirt that also happened to be a nightgown. He helped prop Sara up while Barbara managed to get her dressed, and then they settled her back down.

Finally, Sara’s eyes fluttered open. She looked startled as if she were ready to bolt at a moment’s notice.

“It’s okay, honey. You’re safe,” Barbara said, running a comforting hand over Sara’s arm.

“What? What happened? I had the strangest dream. How did I get here?” Sara asked.

“Here, let me get out of the way so you can sit up. Do you need a drink?” Barbara asked.

“Yeah. Actually, I do. I feel very weak right now,” Sara shook as she sat up.

“I’ll get you a soda. Something sugary to pep you up,” Tristan offered

“Thanks, babe.” Barbara sat next to Sara, waiting for an explanation as to the night’s events and what led up to Sara showing up at Barbara’s house in wolf form.

“Here you go.” Tristian returned quickly and handed Sara a can of soda and a glass filled with ice.

“Thanks.” Sara set the cup on the table beside her and cracked the can of soda. She skipped the ice and poured half the can down her throat. “Sorry. I don’t know what is wrong with me. I’ve never felt like this before.”

“What was your dream about?” Barbara asked as Sara finished off her soda and opened the second one that Tristan handed her.

“I dreamed that I turned into a wolf. Which is completely crazy, right?”

“Ha! You’d think so,” Tristan said, taking a seat in the chair across from the couch.

“Honey,” Barbara said before pausing. “It wasn’t a dream. You were a wolf.”
