The wolf nodded at her.

“Well, how about that. I just want to pet you. Is that a bad thing?” she asked.

He whined again and shook his head back and forth. Then, he stood and slowly began to walk forward, his tail slowly swishing behind him in a happy way with each step.

Sara crouched down as Rhett inched closer to her.

Rhett came to a stop and sat in front of her, placing his snout on her knee.

Surprised by the action, Sara giggled and scratched behind his ears. “Aren’t you a good boy?”

A low rumble left his mouth.

“Sorry, sorry. I just couldn’t resist. You are a handsome wolf, though,” she said, slowly running her fingers over the top of his head and down his neck. “Your fur is so soft.”

Rhett wiggled a little closer, his nose inching toward her core.

“Hey! We’ll have none of that,” she laughed, pushing his big head away from her. Before she could protest further, he walked around her, sniffing her legs and even her ass before she swatted him away.

He continued his circle and then stopped in front of her, staring hard at her for a moment before he turned away and shifted back into his human form.

She waited for him to dress and turn back to face her.

“Now, it’s your turn,” he said with an expectant look.

“I suppose you’re right. Though, I’m not sure I can top that. I definitely don’t shift into a cool animal like you do. I just hope what I have to show you, well … I hope it doesn’t make me look stupid compared to your brand of paranormal.”

Suddenly, Sara wasn’t afraid of showing him that she was a witch. She was just hoping that he wasn’t expecting her to transform into something amazing like he did. Because if that was the case, he was about to be seriously disappointed.

“There’s nothing you can do that will make you look stupid. That I can promise you.”

“If you say so.” He was nice to say that, but she wasn’t sure that she believed him.

“I’m serious, Sara. I can’t imagine there is anything that you could do that would be a turn-off … or make you look stupid.”

She turned and smiled at him, feeling the sincerity and truth in his words. He had meant every word that he had said. Of that, she was one-hundred percent certain.

“Okay. Here goes nothing.” Sara bent down and plucked a small handful of dandelions from the grass. She whispered a few words under her breath, then blew on the seed heads. As they floated away on her breath, each head began to glow as they broke apart and floated into the air until they paused just above their heads and formed a bright white heart before changing colors to a soft red, blue, and finally, purple. Sara let go of her magic hold on the seeds and allowed them to continue on their journey when a light breeze picked up.

“Okay, that was pretty freaking awesome,” Rhett said with a smile.

“Yeah, it was. Wasn’t it?” The fact was that Sara loved her magic. She always had. It was fun to practice and even more fun when she got to show off her skills just a bit. Especially when she was able to come up with cool spells like the one she had just shown Rhett.

“Can you do that again?” he asked, inching closer to where she stood.

“Sure,” she laughed and reached down to grab another handful of dandelions. “I’ve always had a thing for these flowers. I always thought they were pretty … even if most people consider them a weed.”

“I think I’ll always have a soft spot for them now,” he replied.

She blushed, and her heart swelled. “Okay, let’s do a different shape this time.”

“I don’t mind a heart. I liked it.”

“Another heart it is then.”

Sara whispered the same chant and blew out a breath, scattering the seed heads once again. They repeated the same path as the previous ones. She turned to face Rhett to see what he thought about the repeated spell. He wasn’t watching the seed heads float away. His eyes were trained on every move she made.

“Is everything …”

His mouth closed over hers, and she gasped in surprise. The kiss that he had given her just a moment ago had been gentle and sweet. This kiss was not that. It was anything but sweet and gentle.
