A woman peered out of a nearby trailer, and frowned at them.

"Who you looking for?" she called out in a suspicious voice. She was a thin woman with a pinched face. "It's late. What do you want this time of day?"

May showed her the picture of Skunk.

"This man is wanted for questioning in a murder case," she said. "We were told he's probably here."

"What about it?" the woman asked suspiciously. "I don't know where he is."

"Maybe you can tell us which one of these trailers is his?" May asked.

"I don't know. I'm not his mother," she retorted.

A man in a Harley T-shirt peered out of the window of the trailer at the end of the row. His head was shaven, and he had a huge silver hoop in his ear.

"Do you know the whereabouts of Ryan Hatcher, known as Skunk?" May asked him.

He shrugged. "Nope," he said casually.

May walked on, determined that Skunk could not hide away forever.

"This man is wanted for questioning in a murder case," May said, showing a group of people sitting on a porch a photograph of Skunk on her phone. "We were told he's probably here."

There was a glimmer of interest in at least one pair of eyes, and a few of the others turned their heads to look at her.

The man who was sitting on the porch, smoking, laughed.

"Everyone knows Skunk around here," he said.

"How would I find him? Is he here?" she asked.

"He was here earlier, but now I'm not sure where he disappeared to," the man said, showing his yellow teeth in a grin. "He comes and goes all the time, so if he’s not here, he’ll be back soon."

May felt encouraged that they were, at least, were getting close.

"Which is his trailer?" she asked.

The man shrugged. "One of the trailers near the end, I guess."

"You can't say more?"

The man shrugged, grinning.

"I don't know. I'd be careful if I were you. Skunk has a bad temper, and he hates cops."

May walked in the direction he'd indicated, but the last three trailers in the row were empty and unlit. She saw no one she could ask, and the trailers nearby were all quiet.

Darkness was falling quickly, and the park was taking on a more sinister look.

Just as she turned away from the last trailer, she spotted a man hunched, speaking on his phone, in a dusty old car. It was an old red Chevy, parked at the end of the lot.

May recognized the man, who was sitting behind the steering wheel. She could see the scar, and that lanky hair.

"It's Skunk!" she whispered to Owen. Undoubtedly this was the man they were seeking. They’d found him at last.

May hurried over to the Chevy.

Skunk was sitting in the driver's seat, his head turned away from her, as he spoke on the phone.
