“We worked on them after school got out,” Quinn tells me with a quick smile.

She’s brimming with happiness, gorgeous, but I can sense the nervousness under the surface. Is it fear that Ryder’s mood will turn? Or does the fact they’ve been working on something so very school-like here at home have to do with the job opportunity we’ve not discussed yet?

I don’t know but I’m reluctant to be the first to bring up the teaching position. I wouldn’t even know about it if Alex hadn’t come blabbing. Just like I wouldn’t have known about the counseling visit in October regarding Jill if Quinn’s car hadn’t broken down. I don’t like the thought of her keeping things from me especially if it has to do with my kids.

Setting that to one side though, we settle into pajamas, pop our corn and watch our movie. Jill drifts off in Quinn’s bed before it’s even over. Marilyn has decided the foot of Quinn’s bed is her place and she snores contentedly from her spot. Ryder asks me to tuck him into his bed but he gives Quinn a brief hug first. That’s an improvement even if it’s made Quinn teary-eyed.

“Did you want to talk more about what you saw last night, buddy?” I ask him as he’s settling into bed.

He yawns loudly and seems to give this a good deal of thought before replying. “No. You kissing Ms. Quinn is still gross but I don’t want you to be lonely forever, Dad.”

“Lonely forever?”

“That’s what Grandma said at lunch today. Someday, me and Jill will grow up and she’d hate for you to be lonely forever if we’re too busy doing grownup stuff without you to keep you company. Old people need kisses and company of their own, I guess.”

“Uh… okay. Thanks?” My son doesn’t catch my surprise or sarcasm.

How the hell did my mother know to go have lunch with the kids today and have this little conversation? What kind of sorcery do you possess, woman?

Ryder’s eyes are closed when I turn off his bedside lamp. I slip out of his room and Quinn is waiting for me in the hallway. There’s so much we need to talk about. Yet, when she dives into my arms, talking isn’t what’s on my mind.

“I’ve missed you today,” she whispers.

“I’ve missed you fordays,” I tell her back, slowly moving us away from Ryder’s door and closer to my bedroom.

She looks up at me from where her head’s nestled against my chest. “Jill’s in my bed and I told Marilyn to stay but I wanted to check on you. Maybe I was hoping for a goodnight kiss, too. Is Ryder okay?”

“Strangely enough, I think he is. Did you know Mom went to see them during lunch?”

“Yeah, she called me to make sure they were both at school today once she’d got your father settled at home from the hospital. I had a feeling when I picked them up and Ryder was acting like everything was okay again that she must’ve said something but I have no idea what.”

“Me neither.” We share a quiet laugh outside my room. “Quinn, was a goodnight kiss all you wanted?”

She bites at her full bottom lip and shakes her head, too tempting to resist. “No but I know we can’t with Jill up there. I’m going to Isa’s for the weekend by the way. I’ll be back early Monday to get the kids ready for school.”

Damn. I hadn’t counted on that. “All weekend? Is she alright?” Yes, Quinn has her weekends off but it’s been a good while since she actually left for the whole thing.

“Yes, she’s alright other than fretting over her vacation hookup who’s asking for more now. But we just, um… we needed some time together.”

Her eyes dart away and I know I’m not being told the entire truth. Whatever the Batista sisters have going though is their business. I trust that Quinn’s not going to bars to pick up other men anyway.

“Okay.” I look over my shoulder. “Would you want to come in my room for your goodnight kiss?”

“Into your room?” she asks, surprised.

“Yeah.”

She lets me lead her inside and the first thing she does is look for Kathy’s picture… which isn’t there. I’d put it away while getting dressed for Sleepover Night. I’d not planned on bringing Quinn to my room tonight but, the thought that I might bring her here sometime, made it easier to remove the old framed photo. Kathy’s memory can live in other parts of the house but not next to the bed I’d like to share with Quinn. I’d like this to be a place for us,justus.

Quinn doesn’t say anything about the missing photo but she smiles, that radiant smile of hers that could put the Earth’s closest fiery star to shame. Next, she pulls her cami over her head and all thoughts of talking have definitely flown away.

I give Quinn her goodnight kiss.Everywhere. I lap up her arousal like milk and honey, cherishing her helpless moans and pleas for more of my tongue, my fingers, for my cock now and then for more of my tongue first.

“I need a condom,” I say when she’s half-dazed and cutely babbling over orgasms.

“You don’t have to…” She trails off before finishing.

I do have to. I’m not intending to get her pregnant. “You said your doctor’s appointment is Monday?” She nods, suddenly looking fretful. I’m hoping that might mean no more condoms once the pill starts working. “The thought of sinking into your bare pussy makes me nearly cross-eyed with longing,” I tell her, earning a pretty blush and chasing the fretful look away.
