When we get back to my house, he walks me to the front door. We stand facing each other for a few seconds before he breaks the awkward silence.
“What are your plans this weekend?” he asks me.
“Tomorrow I am planning on going to visit my cousin Chris out at the nature center, then go for a small hike.”
“It’s awesome that you like being outdoors.”
“Would you want to come with me?” I ask him.
“I would like that.”
My lips tug up at the side as I try not to let my excitement show too much.
“Great. Do you want to meet me there? Say around ten AM?”
“Sounds like a plan.”
I pull my purse up so I can dig through it to find my keys.
“Found them,” I say with a giggle while lifting them up.
Vance smiles and takes a small step closer to me. Does he want to kiss me? Oh, god, my breath probably smells like onions from the burger I had. He puts his hand on the side of my face while rubbing his thumb across the apple of my cheek.
“Can I kiss you, Lily?” he asks.
I can’t find my voice, so I nod my head a couple times. He takes another step closer, and my breasts touches his chest slightly. Then his thumb sweeps across my bottom lip before he seals them with his. I focus on the soft touch of his lips and the way his hand moves into my hair. He grabs my hip and pulls me into him before deepening the kiss. Our mouths part and tongues dance together. The warmth of his body pressed against mine does...
Nothing. My body doesn’t react. No spark, no tingling...nothing.
I pull away just enough that our lips won’t meet. He releases the hold he has on me.
“Thanks for taking me bowling. I had a lot of fun with you,” I tell him.
“You’re welcome. Thanks for coming with me.”
He gently grabs my hand and brings it up to his lips, then presses a soft kiss on the back of my hand.
“See you tomorrow,” he says before releasing my hand. He starts walking back to his truck and I unlock the door as I am grabbing my phone to call, who else, but my sister.
“Girl. It’s like ten thirty,” she says. Her voice is raspy.
“He kissed me.”
“What! He did?”
“Yes.”
“And?” she asks, sounding more awake.
“Nothing.”
“What do you mean, nothing?”
“I felt nothing. No spark, no sensations besides maybe a little aroused.”
“Did you have fun with him?”
“Yeah, I had a blast. But I think now, after kissing him, it was more like two friends having fun.”
