Chapter Twelve
"Howlonghasit been?"
"Three days." I wrap my blanket around me a little tighter.
Night stayed afterwards, and I fell asleep in his arms. He wrapped me in a hug from behind as I walked him out to
his car, kissed me on my cheek and said, "I'll see you soon." That
was three days ago, and I haven't heard from him since.
"You're going to have to leave
the couch, you know?"
"I've gone to work every day.
Isn't that good enough?"
Kelly grabs a bag of chips from the
cupboard, then joins me on the couch. She pops one into her mouth.
"Yes, it counts. But don't you
have your tattoo touch up on Thursday?"
"Yeah." I reach over and
grab a handful of chips.
"You going to go there wrapped
up in a blanket?"
I glare at her, and she purses her
lips towards me.
"What does it matter if I do?
It's not like my appearance matters while my skin is getting stabbed
repeatedly."
"Seriously? Okay, listen. I
have watched you mope around every day after work over this guy. Why are you
letting it have this effect on you?"
"You wouldn't understand."
I shove the remainder of the chips in my mouth.
"Try me."
I roll my eyes and wipe the salt
