Carter nodded. “He made a comment about remembering you, then he brushed it off. You need to be careful around him.”
“Ryan and Kane?”
“I don’t know Lacey,” he said, but I wondered if he didn’t want me to know or if he truly didn’t know. Carter seemed to know an awful lot about everything to do with me and the kingdom. “I know you keep putting off going to see Clay. He’s called me a few times.”
“I was supposed to go today but I’ll go next weekend.”
“Lacey, it’s important. Things I can’t tell you.”
“But things you know?” I asked.
“Not everything, but I know more than I’m supposed to. We all have to go at the same time you do.”
I laughed. “Your parents had you signed up from the beginning, didn’t they?”
Carter smiled. “Lacey, have a think about what we said. Forces are out there and it’s getting closer to the time they’ll find you. And if they find you before the magic starts, I can’t help you unless I’m near you. But worse than that…”
“My magic has started. I’ve trained in magic all my life,” I said, interrupting.
“No, you were born with some magic, but Clay said your real magic is something else.”
“Could I will someone to stop moving?” I asked. Thinking about the girl at Halloween.
“I don’t know how powerful it is.”
I shook my head. “I think it has already started.”
His eyes widened. “Oh, okay. But I suppose it will be easy to use your magic against someone less magical, you know you can use it against the faes and the vampires. But the unknown is black magic.”
“Black magic?” I asked, raising my eyes.
“Yes, that is what you’re up against Lacey.”
“As in the devil?” I shook my head.
He shrugged his shoulders. “Nobody knows for sure… I doubt it's the actual devil, but definitely a darker force. Much darker than the dark faes.” Carter sighed. “And that is what Clay needs to speak to you about.”
“I need a coffee.”
“I can take you for one,” he said.
“Thanks, but I need to get changed first.” I smiled at Carter, raising my eyes. “And I have things to think about.”
Creeping into the dorm, worrying about how I left the pub because when Carter took me away kicking and screaming, Polly was still in the bathroom. Well… maybe not kicking and screaming. I think I was quite happy to be taken away from the sexy situation that was building with Jack and Blake.
Because I knew I got far too horny and maybe Carter was right, and I took it all too far with Blake and Jack, but I wasn’t ready to join them in their little threesome—regardless of what Carter thought. And yeah, I’d heard all about them. The rumours were rife around campus. Though Blake confused the situation somewhat at the end and I was actually glad to be saved by Carter. Looking back at it, maybe they were testing the boundaries—seeing how far I’d take it.
I blinked hard. Thinking of everything, and clearly, the past twenty-four hours had been crazy, two sets of guys asking for me to be theirs—and it blew my mind. Having to figure out everything that each group put before me, but I was half shocked and half turned on by the potential of having gorgeous men at my control. But what was in it for them?
I got it with Jack and Blake. They wanted to share, it would be the three of us together. Then again, Blake said he wanted it to be him only. But Seb, Carter and Kane weren’t sharing, and I wasn’t sure what Ryan wanted out of it.
I really need that coffee.
I pushed open the door to the dorm and glanced at Polly sat on the sofa.
“What happened to you last night?” she said, twisting her head to the door and noticing me trying to creep into the room. She was going over an assignment, though it looked like she finished. Which made me realise I needed to get some work done.
“Carter came into the pub and refused to leave without me.” I sighed. “It was easier for everyone if I left.”
