“Shut up, Ryan,” I said. Kane grunted.
“I think you’ll all find Lacey will choose me. I was the one she stared at on her birthday and she’ll soon remember me,” Seb said. It was almost to himself he was so quiet.
But I heard him and whipped my head to face him. “Remember you. What do you mean?” I asked.
Seb shrugged his shoulder.
“Ah, you mean because you were the one who walked her home and didn’t come back until the next day,” I said. “What happened?”
“I don’t kiss and tell.”
“What the fuck happened? Because if you don’t tell me, I’m going to…” I yelled.
“What are you going to do?” Seb stared me down. His eyes darkened. “You don't hold as much power as you think and you know it. One day, Carter, I…” he hesitated.
"Oh shut it," I interrupted his rant and huffed, turning to face each of them, one by one. “The three of you were supposed to get her back to me. That was the plan. I’m the one chosen, and you all need to remember that.”
“That was your plan, one knight, when the better plan is if she chooses the four of us, more protection than one,” Ryan said, speaking logic as always. But I wasn’t interested in logic because I wanted Lacey to myself.
Seb prodded at my chest. “You need to get over that she was your ex-girlfriend and think about her and what they expect of her. She will be safer with four knights than one.”
“Are you talking of four binds?” I laughed. It was a feeble simper. “You are fucking joking. No way.”
“Look who is going all alpha now, arsehole,” Kane growled.
“Oh yes,” Ryan interrupted whatever argument was about to happen. “I forget to say, she has a date with Jack Saturday night,” he added, like it was something he had only just found out.
I shook my head in disbelief. What the fuck was wrong with Ryan? “And you’re telling me now?” I roared. “These dates are getting out of hand. We need to put a stop to them.”
“Did you ask where they’re going?” Seb asked. I glanced at him and he looked upset and it surprised me to see Kane didn’t too happy either.
“She didn’t know. She left it up to Polly when she left the University.”
“Fucking Jack,” I hissed.
“That’s exactly what he’ll want her to do,” Ryan whispered.
“I need to get out of here,” Seb said with a deep sigh.
Chapter 17
Seb
Iwassoangrywhen I let go of the heavyset steel door of the gym, leaving it to crash behind me, and the sound reverberated through the walls. Other gym-goers stopped and stared at me. I just shrugged because right now I didn’t give a shit.
Knowing she was mine but I couldn’t do anything about it was the worst punishment the Gods could have given me. And then seeing Lacey kissing Ryan when I was out for a run was like a knife plunging into my heart and instead of jogging to them, which I planned to do and ask what was going on; obviously I would have pretended it was on Carter’s behalf, but I changed my mind at the very last moment. I couldn’t take the risk of being banished because I said too much.
But tonight, Ryan annoyed me further after finding out he knew all along she was going on a date with Jack, which hopefully didn’t involve Blake.
What was wrong with him? It was like he didn’t care.
Whereas, the moment I woke up next to her as we used to in our former lives, I knew waiting for her was worth it. Though I needed to keep my thoughts to myself, I nearly dropped the ball during the argument with Carter. And although I was angry and frustrated at Lacey for dating Jack. I knew I was to blame too, because I hadn’t tried, no I stupidly waited for her to come to me. Just like she used to.
She doesn’t feel it yet.
They told you she wouldn’t, not until the Gods were ready.
When everyone was given a fair chance.
