Too stunned to argue, I pulled up the address. “Uhh… Merrick, on fourth and Grapefruit. Are you sure you’re okay to—“
The door shut behind him.
“Guess he’s okay with it,” I muttered to myself, slipping my phone in my pocket and heading back to the group. Everyone chuckled when I explained the situation, and sad grins went around the room at Ryder’s protectiveness of a woman he probably didn’t even know.
Fifteen minutes later, my phone rang again.
Charly, again.
My stomach clenched, and I answered as I got up.
“Hey, girl. You okay?”
“Not sure, to be honest. Some hot, inked up werewolf showed up and broke my date’s face. I barely got a look at him before his eyes turned red. Sab… he’s my mate. Are you almost here? Backup would be good right now.”
My jaw dropped. “What?”
“He’s my mate. Or I’m his… I thought I’d already met all the single werewolves in town. Are you almost here?”
“Ryder went to rescue you for me, Char. That was Ryder. That shouldn’t be—how are you his mate?”
There was a long pause. “Ryder… you mean Oscar Hughes?”
I glanced over at the group, who had gone dead silent and was staring at me. “Is Ryder’s name Oscar Hughes?” I asked them.
“Yeah.” Rocco choked the word out.
“Yeah, Ryder is Oscar,” I told Char, my mind spinning. “But… his mate rejected him.”
“Fuck me backward,” she groaned. “All he’s got here is a bike, and I think he’s going to kill this asshole if I don’t get him out of here. Is he staying in the townhomes?”
“Yeah, Dax’s old place,” I admitted.
“Alright, I’ll be there soon, assuming I manage to get that death trap back to town in one piece.”
Shit.
“Alright, we’ll get Dax’s stuff out, too. That should help Ryder’s wolf, right?”
“Probably. Shit. Can you have one of the guys there call my sister? One of them must have her number.”
“Yep, will do.” I nodded jerkily.
“Thanks girl. See you soon.” She hung up, and I stared down at the phone for a minute.
“What happened?” Rocco growled at me.
“Easy,” Dax snarled back at him.
“It’s okay. I—Ryder’s wolf picked Charly to be his mate. I thought he was dying? And werewolves only have one mate?” My gaze moved quickly around the room.
“So did we,” Elliot admitted.
