He chuckled. “It’s not exactly exciting. I’m a freelance data analyst. I enjoy it, but most people look at me like there’s something wrong with me when I give them the job title.”
My eyebrows lifted. “A data analyst? So companies give you their numbers, and info, and you have to turn it into statistical reports and shit that tells them how to be better?”
“Right. I tell them what’s working and what isn’t, so they can succeed on purpose,” he agreed.
“Damn, that’s actually pretty cool. My dad’s told me so much about his businesses, I know he’s got a handful of them working for him.”
Dax nodded. “Some people go full time with a company, or sign contracts with a few. I like to have my freedom. And I’m good at what I do, so I get large companies sending me inquiries almost constantly.”
My eyebrows lifted. “Good enough that my dad would’ve heard of you?”
He shrugged. “No idea.”
I grabbed my phone, pulling up my text thread with my dad. It was mostly barren, but I ignored that. “What’s your company called?”
He gave me the name, and I typed it into a text, asking my dad if he’d heard of them.
My dad answered almost immediately, as I expected.
Dad: Why are you researching data analysts?
Damn him.
I rolled my eyes to Dax, and he chuckled.
Me: I’m not. Just answer the question.
Dad: Everyone’s heard of him. He’s selective about what jobs he takes, though. Doesn’t leave home much. Why?
I hesitated, and then finally answered.
Me: I’m kind of dating him.
There was a pause.
A long pause.
Dad: Kind of dating him, or really dating him?
I heaved a sigh, shooting Dax an apologetic look. He still looked fairly amused, though.
Me: Really dating him. We’re pretty serious. I think he might propose soon.
I shot Dax another apologetic grimace, but found his lips curved upward. “I’d love to marry you, Sabrina. But not until you want to marry me.”
Damn him for being sweet.
Dad: I’ll be there in the morning.
My eyes widened in horror.
SHIT.
Me: You don’t need to do that.
Dad: Is he living with you?
I heaved a sigh, knowing that if I asked Dax, he’d tell me that was completely up to me.
