Now he thought I was some horny freak.
It wasn’t like I’d showered—I probably had a fucking catheter in, because I definitely didn’t remember being carried to the bathroom.
“I was kidding,” I blurted.
“I wasn’t.” Dax stared at me, his eyes narrowing. “And neither were you.”
Dammit.
“Fine, I wasn’t. I—” He rolled me to my back, tugged the blanket up to my tits, and then leaned over the top of me. His forehead met mine for a moment, before his lips took mine.
He didn’t bother kissing me lightly, or slowly. His tongue slid right into my mouth, and damn, the man devoured me. It was the kind of kiss you’d read about in a book—the kind of kiss where the rest of the world ceases to exist, and it’s just the two of you. The kind of kiss where your bodies get minds of their own, where your hands find each other’s hair, and necks, and asses, and chests.
He pulled away before our hands got the chance to roam, though his forehead remained pressed against mine, his eyes open and watching me breathe rapidly. “You’re alright?”
“I feel great,” I admitted.
It was mostly true.
I felt insanely, insanely horny—but wasn’t in pain.
“Still haven’t shifted, though.” His hand ran slowly up my hip and side, which was left bare thanks to the wide-open hospital gown.
Damn, his hand felt good on my skin.
“Let’s have the nurse look at you, and then we’ll try this again. I don’t want to do anything that could injure you.”
A groan escaped me. “Damn you.”
He chuckled and hit the call button off to the side of the bed. “When you’ve got the all-clear, I’ll do anything you want to you.”
Anything I wanted?
It was a hell of a lot sexier when he said he wanted it.
“The last time the doctor came in, it wasn’t good,” I warned him.
“I know.” He squeezed my bare hip lightly. “This time will be better.”
“How do you know that?” I countered.
The door opened, and Teagan strode into the room, wearing a massive grin. “Hey, girl. You look alive.”
I snorted. “Way to keep my spirit up, nurse.”
“Gotta do my job.” She winked at me.
Dax was right; it would be better this time.
“Shoo, fly.” She used a hand to wave Dax away from me. “I’ve gotta check out our Delta chick, and we don’t need wandering eyes.” Her gaze flicked to me. “Unless you want them to wander.”
My cheeks heated.
He’d turned me down, so… “No.”
“You heard your mate. Go check out the hallway—you could both do with some vending machine snacks.”
Dax looked far from thrilled, but he slowly eased himself off the bed. As soon as our bodies weren’t touching, a wave of exhaustion slowly began to weigh me down.
